than force him to raise additional capital
for the initial investment. Kassab's company
hopes to complete construction on
the theatre in time for a summer opening.
MODERN PLEX
TO COME TO CHEHALIS
Chehalis Theatre owner Daryl Lund
has unveiled a pioposal tor a modern
multiscreener in the Chehalis-Centralia
area. Lund, who currently operates the
single-screen venue in Chehaiis, plans to
include seven or eight screens, more
than 800 seats, digital surround sound
and all-stadium auditoriums in the new
cineplex, which he predicts will be the
most popular movie destination in the
rural area. Currently, the largest movie
theatre in the immediate region is a
three-screener in
the town of Chehalis.
MALCO'S RALEIGH RALLY
Memphis, Tenn. -based Malco Theatres
has bowed a new 12-screen multiplex
anchoring the recently revamped
Raleigh Springs Mall entertainment
complex. Measuring over 42,000 square
feet, the cineplex includes such modern
amenities as all-stadium auditoriums
and digital surround sound systems. The
opening of the Malco site last July
marked completion of the shopping
center's mass renovations, which cost
upwards of $11 million. In addition to
the 12-plex, other major anchors of the
Raleigh Springs Mall include retailers
Sears and ICPenny Outlet. Simon
Property Croup, which owns the complex
and put up the funds for its extensive
remodeling, is putting the entertainment
site on the auction block.
MAGNOLIA FLOWERS
IN DALLAS
Austin, Texas-based art-house circuit
Magnolia Pictures has opened its flagship
theatre in Dallas. Located in the
city's Uptown district on the corner of
Lemmon and McKinney, the new cinema,
dubbed the Magnolia, features five
screens and 1,000 seats and anchors the
West Village entertainment complex,
which also holds retail shops, restaurants
and residential spaces. Magnolia
Pictures founders Bill Banowsky and
John Sughrue hope to expand their circuit
nationwide, with plans to bow as
many as 12 venues per year. The chain
will program specialty and foreign lingo
pics at its theatres.

MAKING CINEMAGIC
IN MENOMONIE
Alter a number of delays, including a
notoriously wet spring season that made
construction impossible on certain days, it
looks like Menomonie's new CineMagii
Theatre will soon be opening its doors to
the public . Among the amenities to bo featured
in the seven-screen plex are all-stadium
seating, surround sound stereo systems
and a 5 2 -square-foot screen in the
largest auditorium. CineMagic management
originally hoped for a March 2001
opening date for its latest build.
CEC'S SUPERIOR ENTRANCE
Exhibition company Cinema Entertainment
Corp. recently completely renovations
on a seven-screen plex in the c
of Superior. The Superior Seven Theatres,
which anchors the Mariner Mall, features
three brand new auditoriums, wall-to-wall
carpeting, reclining seats and surround
sound audio systems. Additionally, individual
patron comfort level has been prioritized,
with overall seat count decreasing
from 1 ,000 over four screens to 1 ,1 40
throughout seven auditoriums. Other
local sites developed by Cinema
include the Cinema
Entertainment Corp.
