and social care
Where first class health and social care and
decent, affordable housing is available to all
Caring for each other is the mark of a civilised
society.
Healthcare must be responsive to the needs of the
community, social care support should protect and
enhance our quality of life and everybody should be
able to find somewhere decent to live.
Looking after the health of our residents is about
more than recruiting GPs and building hospitals. We
want to offer the right kind of support to
everybody who lives in Hillingdon, at every stage of
their lives. That means helping people adopt a
healthier lifestyle by encouraging them to eat a
balanced diet and take exercise. Other people need
help to tackle addictions to cigarettes, alcohol or
drugs. Older people and residents with disabilities
should be helped wherever possible to live a full
life, in their own homes; and we want to do more
to make the homes in our borough affordable,
available and fit for purpose.
By 2015, we will:
• Ensure that all residents of the borough have no
unnecessary delays in access to health, housing
and social care that is tailored to their individual
needs and the needs of their community.
• Allow many more patients with chronic diseases,
older and disabled people to be looked after at
home, and offer better training and support for
their carers, early diagnosis and treatment.
• Create new hospital and primary care facilities
serving the north and south of the borough.
• Bring all council housing up to the decent homes
standard, build hundreds more affordable homes
and ensure that at least 1000 additional
privately owned homes are made fit to live in.
