FOREWORD A foreword, by the Hillingdon Partners A community never stands still; it evolves. Hillingdon has changed more in the last ten years than at any time since our borough was created in 1965. Now, as we look forward to a further decade of unprecedented advancement, improvement and achievement, we want to map out our vision for the future of our community. This strategy for Hillingdon aims to do much more than list the partnership’s short-term targets. We want to look beyond the next few years and paint a picture of Hillingdon in 2015. What it will look like; what it will contribute to London and the surrounding area; and what quality of life its residents can expect. In this strategy we describe where we want to be in ten years time and how we plan to get there. The Hillingdon story for the next ten years is one of challenge and opportunity. We must address the issues that rightly concern our residents, from the pressures on our green heritage, to the challenges of educating and supporting an increasingly diverse population. At the same time, there is much that we can take pride in. We have developed some thriving business centres across the borough, and we must look to encourage further economic growth in Hillingdon; we are engaging more closely with our community and looking at new ways to link our services to the needs of all our local neighbourhoods; and we are doing all this without spoiling the unique character of our borough and the attractive open spaces that make it such a rewarding place to live. On these foundations we can build an even more vibrant, forward-looking and prosperous borough. If this vision is to become a reality, we will all need to pull together. This partnership is built up of leading figures in the local council, police and health services; business and educational institutions and community groups. Most importantly of all, the partnership is designed to meet your hopes for the next ten years, as a resident of this borough. We hope this vision meets your expectations for the future and describes a place where you will still want to live, learn or work in ten years’ time.
