Noosa Aquatic Centre, Girraween Court, Sunshine Beach (council owned)
The Noosa Aquatic Centre is located adjacent to the Sunshine Beach State High School and in
close proximity to other sports precincts and schools within this locality. This centre is the only
council owned aquatic centre being managed directly by council. Sub leases are in place for
associated services including sports medicine, squad coaching and cafe.
This facility features a 50 metre pool, 25 metre pool, toddler/leisure and program pool as well as
amenities, lifeguard station, first aid room, gymnasium, crèche and supplementary space currently
being used for sports medicine.
Assessment
The 2006 census 10 kilometre population catchment is estimated to be 33,479 persons. Since the
development of the 25 metre pool (loss of shaded spectator mounds), there is a lack of permanent
shaded areas around the facility. There is also a need to improve the provision of car parking and
active transport options.
