Likewise, plants operating as CCGT are less polluting and these plants emit the
lowest level of nitrogen oxide (NOx) and sulphur dioxide (SO2) registering 27.5 and
0.1 respectively.
It was found that the overall performance of the power plants are basically affected by
the size of licensed capacity of the plant, age of the plant and most importantly is type
of technology used in generating the electricity.
Box 3.2: Positioning SMEs Up the Value Chain through
e-Commerce Adoption
The development of a competitive, innovative and technologically strong Small
and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) sector is pertinent for the growth of the domestic
economy to compete in international markets and moving up the value chain. This can
be achieved through the adoption of ICT and e-commerce application as consumers
and businesses are relying more on internet-based business portals to source for
various products and services.
In this respect, MPC had undertaken a study on the "Impact of e-Commerce Adoption
among SMEs" conducted in 2009 with the objectives to determine the extent of usage
and the impact of e-commerce adoption among SMEs in Malaysia. Respondent profile
was 52.1% from the manufacturing and 47.9% from services accounts. The study
found that the highest impact of e-commerce adoption perceived by the respondents
has enhanced company brand and corporate image.
