K<strong>in</strong>g Wu was the first to declare Beij<strong>in</strong>g the capital city <strong>in</strong> 1057 BC. Subsequently, the city has gone by<br />
the names of Ji, Zhongdu, Dadu, and f<strong>in</strong>ally Beij<strong>in</strong>g when the M<strong>in</strong>g Dynasty Emperor ChengZu chose<br />
the name <strong>in</strong> 1421. Before 1949, Beij<strong>in</strong>g was known as Pek<strong>in</strong>g by the Western world.<br />
