HAN COSTUME<br />

Han costume or Hanfu is the traditional dress<br />

of Han nationality <strong>in</strong> Ch<strong>in</strong>a. Han costume has a<br />

history of more than three millennia. From the<br />

beg<strong>in</strong>n<strong>in</strong>g of its history, Han costume (especially<br />

<strong>in</strong> elite circles) was <strong>in</strong>separable from silk.<br />

TRADITIONAL<br />

CHINESE MEDICINE<br />

A <strong>com</strong>plete Han costume garment is assembled<br />

from several pieces of cloth<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong>to an output:<br />

Yi (): Any open cross-collar garment, and worn<br />

by both sexes<br />

Pao (): Any closed full-body garment, worn<br />

only by men <strong>in</strong> Han costume<br />

Ru (): Open cross-collar shirt<br />

Shan (): Open cross-collar shirt or jacket that is<br />

worn over the Yi<br />

Qun () or Chang (): Skirt for women and men<br />

Ku (): Trousers or pants<br />

People are also able to accessorize with tassels<br />

and jade pendants or various ornaments hung<br />

from the belt or sash, known as Pei ().<br />

With a history of 2000 to 3000 years, Traditional<br />

Ch<strong>in</strong>ese Medic<strong>in</strong>e (TCM) has formed a unique<br />

system to diagnose and cure illness. The TCM<br />

approach is fundamentally different from that of<br />

Western medic<strong>in</strong>e.<br />

In TCM, the understand<strong>in</strong>g of the human body<br />

is based on the holistic understand<strong>in</strong>g of the<br />

universe as described <strong>in</strong> Daoism, and the<br />

treatment of illness is based primarily on the<br />

diagnosis and differentiation of syndromes.<br />

The TCM approach treats Zang-Fu organs as the<br />

core of the human body. Tissue and organs are<br />

connected through a network of channels and<br />

blood vessels <strong>in</strong>side human body.<br />

Acupuncture is a technique of <strong>in</strong>sert<strong>in</strong>g and<br />

manipulat<strong>in</strong>g f<strong>in</strong>e needles <strong>in</strong>to specific po<strong>in</strong>ts on<br />

the body with the aim of reliev<strong>in</strong>g pa<strong>in</strong> and for<br />

therapeutic purposes. Accord<strong>in</strong>g to traditional<br />

Ch<strong>in</strong>ese acupuncture theory, these acupuncture<br />

po<strong>in</strong>ts lie along meridians along which Qi, the<br />

vital energy, flows.
