TIGTA Agent Receives H.I.R.E.Award<br />

IGTA Assistant Special Agent in Charge<br />

(ASAC) Ernest Valverde received <strong>the</strong><br />

Hispanic Internal Revenue Employees<br />

(H.I.R.E.) Vice-President <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Year<br />

Award. The H.I.R.E. goals are to assist <strong>the</strong><br />

IRS in <strong>the</strong> recruitment, hiring, training,<br />

career advancement and retention <strong>of</strong><br />

Hispanics and all o<strong>the</strong>r employees, and to<br />

instill <strong>the</strong> highest degree <strong>of</strong> self-esteem and<br />

confidence in <strong>the</strong>ir abilities in an<br />

environment free from discriminatory<br />

practices. The award is given to <strong>the</strong><br />

individual who contributes to <strong>the</strong> success <strong>of</strong><br />

<strong>the</strong> organization by exemplifying its goals<br />

and putting forth a tireless effort in<br />

accomplishing those goals.<br />

The award was presented on June 30, 2005,<br />

in Austin, Texas, during <strong>the</strong> H.I.R.E.<br />

National Training Conference Awards<br />

Banquet. ASAC Valverde is currently <strong>the</strong><br />

Regional Vice-President for <strong>the</strong> Sou<strong>the</strong>ast<br />

Region covering Florida, Georgia, and<br />

Puerto Rico.<br />

TIGTA Employees Win PCIE Awards<br />

The President’s Council on Integrity and<br />

Efficiency (PCIE), which is comprised <strong>of</strong><br />

Inspectors General appointed by <strong>the</strong><br />

President, annually recognizes those in <strong>the</strong><br />

Inspector General community who have<br />

made outstanding audit, inspection, or<br />

investigative achievements. TIGTA<br />

congratulates its two individuals and five<br />

teams that were selected as recipients <strong>of</strong><br />

Awards for Excellence:<br />

• Mr. Gerald Hurry, ASAC, Atlanta;<br />

• Mr. Andrew Fried, Senior Special Agent,<br />

Strategic Enforcement Division, and <strong>the</strong><br />

IRS Computer Network Team;<br />

• Memphis Information Systems<br />

Program Team;<br />

• Capital Expenditures – E300 Audit Team;<br />

• Failure to Pay Penalty Team; and,<br />

• Earned Income Tax Credit Audit Team.<br />
