Details of the performance of the individual revenue<br />

sources are provided in the following paragraphs.<br />

Income from ticketing<br />

<strong>Borussia</strong> Dortmund's receipts from match operations,<br />

i.e. income from ticketing and friendly games,<br />

increased by EUR 1.1 million to EUR 18.3 million<br />

in the past financial year for the <strong>2006</strong>/<strong>2007</strong> season.<br />

The largest individual contribution to growth amo un -<br />

ting to EUR 0.7 million was made by income from<br />

Bundesliga match and season ticket sales. In addition<br />

the home game against Hannover 96 in the second<br />

main round of the DFB Cup generated a surplus of<br />

EUR 0.1 million, while various friendly games and<br />

match operations for the regional league team provided<br />

additional income of EUR 0.3 million.<br />

The average number of spectators was increased<br />

from 71,378 to 72,164, despite lower season ticket<br />

sales compared with the previous year and a rather<br />

difficult season from the sporting point of view, with<br />

the club's participation in the first division next season<br />

not made certain until the 32nd match day. On<br />

an international basis, <strong>Borussia</strong> Dortmund therefore<br />

continues to occupy third place in terms of numbers<br />

of spectators behind Manchester United and Real<br />

Madrid, despite not participating in an international<br />

competition.<br />

The loyalty of the club's supporters, even following<br />

an unsuccessful sporting season, is made clear by the<br />

number of season tickets already sold for next season.<br />

With 50,549 tickets sold for the <strong>2007</strong>/2008<br />

season, <strong>Borussia</strong> Dortmund has beaten its own<br />

Bundesliga record of 50,415 season tickets sold for<br />

2003/2004. By comparison: On average, 20,450 season<br />

tickets were sold in the Bundesliga for the<br />

<strong>2006</strong>/<strong>2007</strong> season.<br />

Income from sponsorship<br />

<strong>Borussia</strong> Dortmund's income from sponsorship<br />

conformed to the upward trend enjoyed by all clubs<br />

in the Bundesliga and reached EUR 30.5 million,<br />

thus exceeding the EUR 30 million target for the<br />

first time.<br />

Despite not participating in an international competition,<br />

<strong>BVB</strong>'s games were watched by an average<br />

of 72,164 spectators and therefore represented an<br />

attractive advertising platform, especially for<br />

regional companies. The creation of additional<br />

capacity for perimeter boards also created the<br />

opportunity to offer perimeter board advertising to<br />

new potential clients.<br />

In addition to RAG, acting as main sponsor for the<br />

first time in the last financial year, and SIGNAL<br />

IDUNA, which has given its name to the largest<br />

stadium in the Bundesliga, <strong>Borussia</strong> Dortmund and<br />

its marketing partner SPORTFIVE succeeded<br />

once again in increasing the number of so-called<br />

“champion partners” and partners compared with<br />

the previous year.<br />

The development of the hospitality areas also made<br />

a substantial contribution to the increase in income<br />

from sponsorship. In addition to the reserved seating<br />

area in the West Stand at SIGNAL IDUNA PARK<br />

which has been fully booked for years, the new<br />

Business Club 09 concept was gratefully received by<br />

many customers. Not only does it offer participants<br />

the chance to experience all <strong>BVB</strong> matches at<br />

SIGNAL IDUNA PARK close up, it also creates the<br />

opportunity to benefit from the “<strong>Borussia</strong> Dort -<br />

mund” phenomenon away from the pitch. The number<br />

of seats sold was more than double the previous<br />

year's figure. Regular meetings on journeys to away<br />

games and many other events promote a constant<br />
