The Engineer may check all or any portion of the stake-out survey work or notes<br />

made by the Contractor and any necessary correction to the Work shall be<br />

immediately made. Such checking by the Engineer shall not relieve the Contractor of<br />

any responsibilities for the accuracy or completeness of his work.<br />

1.12 Survey Monuments<br />

When any monument or property marker, whether of stone, concrete, wood or metal,<br />

or a mark on the pavement or sidewalk designating the lines of the streets or highway<br />

or of private property is in the line of any trench of other constructing work and may<br />

have to be removed, the Contractor shall notify the Engineer in writing at least 48<br />

hours in advance of removal. Under no circumstances shall such monument or marker<br />

be removed or disturbed by the Contractor or by any of his sub-contractors,<br />

employees or agents, without a written order from the Engineer. The Contractor shall<br />

furnish all necessary labor and materials required in correctly resetting any monument<br />

or property maker disturbed. Should nay monument or marker be destroyed through<br />

accident or neglect, the Contractor will be required, at his own expense, to correctly<br />

reestablish the monument or marker.<br />

1.13 Subsurface Structures and All Utilities<br />

Before beginning excavation operations, the Contractor shall contact the specified<br />

departments of the Municipality and utilities and notify them of his intention to begin<br />

excavation operations.<br />

The contractor has to consider all the existing obstacles in his price.<br />

The Drawings may show and specifications may discuss certain drainage or other<br />

structures or facilities believed to exist in the working area, the exact location of<br />

which may vary from the locations indicated. All drainage or other structures or<br />

facilities may not be shown. The Drawings do not show all sewage collection pipes,<br />

storm water collection conduits, underground electric conduits or aboveground<br />

telephone facilities, underground sanity facilities, all of which are known to exist in<br />

the area. There may be certain other facilities and utilities in the work are not listed<br />

above or not shown on the Drawings, including all service connections that must<br />

remain in service.<br />

It shall be the responsibility of the Contractor to determine the exact location of such<br />

pipeline, subsurface, structures and/or utilities ahead of his Work by exploratory<br />

excavation or other means and to take suitable precautions to prevent damage to them<br />

and to prevent interruption of the services which such facilities provide. If they are<br />

broken or damaged, they shall be restored by the Contractor or the appropriate utility<br />

at the Contractor's expense. Where pipelines, subsurface structures and/or utilities<br />

encountered in the Work coincide with the location of the Employers water pipes and<br />

the Engineer deems it advisable, the location of the water pipes may be changed to<br />

avoid the facilities. Where the Engineer does not deem it advisable to relocate the<br />

Employer's water pipes and where the pipeline, subsurface structures and/or utilities<br />

require relocation before the work can proceed, the Contractor shall notify the<br />

Engineer and the owner of said facilities of the location and circumstances and shall<br />

cease Work, if necessary, until the Contractor can establish satisfactory procedures to<br />
