1.49.2 Standard Sampling Methods
The following is the schedule of standard sampling methods of materials which
shall be carried out during the execution of the Works.

Water for concrete 1 test for each source
and as directed by the BS 3148
Engineer thereafter.
Portland Cement
1 bag cement for quality
testing shall be taken
from each 1700 bags or
fraction thereof for BS 4550:Part 1
each source or manufacturer.
The Engineer may
in lieu of this accept
a testing certificate.
Coarse Aggregate One sample for quality
Concrete testing shall be taken
from each designated
source. After approval
one sample shall be
taken for quality testing
from each 1000 m3 BS 812:
when the material is Part 101
in use. On each sample & 102
2 sets of the required
tests should be carried
out except sieve analysis
which shall be 3 in
number.
Fine Aggregate As for Coarse above BS 812:
for concrete Part 101 & 102
Bituminous
Materials
One sample of each type
of material shall be
taken for each source
or delivery from the
manufacturers. Subsequtesting
shall be as BS 3195:
directed by the Engineer Part 3
but not less than one
sample for each 500
drums (55gal) or equivalent
