1.49.2 Standard Sampling Methods<br />

The following is the schedule of standard sampling methods of materials which<br />

shall be carried out during the execution of the Works.<br />

Water for concrete 1 test for each source<br />

and as directed by the BS 3148<br />

Engineer thereafter.<br />

Portland Cement<br />

1 bag cement for quality<br />

testing shall be taken<br />

from each 1700 bags or<br />

fraction thereof for BS 4550:Part 1<br />

each source or manufacturer.<br />

The Engineer may<br />

in lieu of this accept<br />

a testing certificate.<br />

Coarse Aggregate One sample for quality<br />

Concrete testing shall be taken<br />

from each designated<br />

source. After approval<br />

one sample shall be<br />

taken for quality testing<br />

from each 1000 m3 BS 812:<br />

when the material is Part 101<br />

in use. On each sample & 102<br />

2 sets of the required<br />

tests should be carried<br />

out except sieve analysis<br />

which shall be 3 in<br />

number.<br />

Fine Aggregate As for Coarse above BS 812:<br />

for concrete Part 101 & 102<br />

Bituminous<br />

Materials<br />

One sample of each type<br />

of material shall be<br />

taken for each source<br />

or delivery from the<br />

manufacturers. Subsequtesting<br />

shall be as BS 3195:<br />

directed by the Engineer Part 3<br />

but not less than one<br />

sample for each 500<br />

drums (55gal) or equivalent<br />
