Higher certificate Diploma Bachelor’s degree<br />

College <strong>of</strong> Education<br />

• A National Senior<br />

Certificate (NSC), with at<br />

least 30% in the language<br />

<strong>of</strong> teaching and learning,<br />

or<br />

• A Senior Certificate, with at<br />

least 30%* in the language<br />

<strong>of</strong> teaching and learning in<br />

terms <strong>of</strong> the NSC,<br />

or<br />

• A National Certificate<br />

(Vocational) Level 4, with at<br />

least 30%* in the language<br />

<strong>of</strong> teaching and learning in<br />

terms <strong>of</strong> the NSC.<br />

• A National Senior Certificate (Diploma<br />

endorsement) with at least 50% in the language<br />

<strong>of</strong> teaching and learning,<br />

or<br />

• A Senior Certificate with an equivalent <strong>of</strong> at least<br />

50%* in terms <strong>of</strong> the NSC, in the language <strong>of</strong><br />

learning and teaching,<br />

or<br />

• A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with<br />

at least diploma endorsement, with at least<br />

60%* in the language <strong>of</strong> teaching and learning<br />

in terms <strong>of</strong> the NSC.<br />

A student who has not obtained at least 50%* in<br />

the language <strong>of</strong> teaching and learning will be limited<br />

to 48 credits at NQF level 5 in their first period <strong>of</strong><br />

study and must register for –<br />

• Students whose Language <strong>of</strong> Learning and<br />

Teaching is English: ENG1511 (English<br />

pr<strong>of</strong>iciency for university studies) and ENN103F<br />

(English for academic purposes),<br />

or<br />

• Students whose Language <strong>of</strong> Learning and<br />

Teaching is Afrikaans: AFK1502 (Basiese<br />

teksvaardighede) and AFK1503 (Contemporary<br />

Afrikaans: Language studies and written<br />

communication).<br />

• Two modules from their chosen program.<br />

All 48 credits will have to be passed before the<br />

student can continue with the Diploma curriculum.<br />

A student who does not meet the admission<br />

requirements may apply for admission into a higher<br />

certificate.<br />

• A National Senior Certificate (Degree<br />

endorsement) with at least 50% in the language<br />

<strong>of</strong> teaching,<br />

or<br />

• a Senior Certificate with matriculation exemption<br />

or qualify for the exemption from the Matriculation<br />

Board, with an equivalent <strong>of</strong> at least 50%* in terms<br />

<strong>of</strong> the NSC in the language <strong>of</strong> learning and teaching,<br />

or<br />

• A National Certificate (Vocational) Level 4 with at<br />

least degree endorsement, with at least 60%* in<br />

the language <strong>of</strong> teaching and learning in terms <strong>of</strong><br />

the NSC.<br />

A student who has not obtained at least 50%* ) in<br />

the language <strong>of</strong> teaching and learning will be limited to<br />

48 credits at NQF level 5 in their first period <strong>of</strong> study<br />
