<strong>Commercial</strong> vehicles must not be more<br />

than the following dimensions:<br />

• 2.6 metres in width. If the vehicle is<br />

wider than 2.05 metres, clearance lights<br />

are required. These must be amber in<br />

the front <strong>and</strong> red in the rear.<br />

• 4.15 metres in height from the<br />

ground surface<br />

• 12.5 metres in length for a straight truck<br />

• 6.2 metres in wheelbase length for a<br />

truck-trac<strong>to</strong>r<br />

• 23 metres in overall length for a trac<strong>to</strong>r<br />

semi-trailer or truck <strong>and</strong> <strong>to</strong>wed trailer<br />

combination<br />

• 25 metres in overall length for<br />

Transportation Association of Canada<br />

(TAC) vehicle combinations consisting of<br />

A, B <strong>and</strong> C trains.<br />

No vehicle or combination of vehicles<br />

will be allowed <strong>to</strong> operate on a highway<br />

if the weight on a tire, axle or axle groups<br />

or gross vehicle weight is more than what<br />

is allowed under the <strong>Commercial</strong> Vehicle<br />

Dimension <strong>and</strong> Weight Regulation (AR<br />

315/2002).<br />

Specialized, oversized or overweight<br />

equipment requires a special permit. The<br />

permit will have specific conditions on it.<br />

These conditions will state:<br />

• the routes you may travel on<br />

• the days <strong>and</strong> hours of travel<br />

• the type of equipment that<br />

must be used<br />

• anything else that is needed <strong>to</strong> prevent<br />

road damage <strong>and</strong> <strong>to</strong> ensure <strong>safety</strong>.<br />

This Manual will be given <strong>to</strong> you when you<br />

complete the Alberta Air Brake Program<br />

at a licensed driving school or certified<br />
