This <strong>guide</strong>, along with the Driver’s Guide <strong>to</strong><br />

Operation, Safety <strong>and</strong> Licensing (Cars <strong>and</strong><br />

Light Trucks) will give you the necessary<br />

information for learning <strong>to</strong> drive a truck,<br />

trac<strong>to</strong>r-trailer, ambulance, taxi or bus.<br />

These two <strong>guide</strong>s provide information that<br />

will help you obtain a commercial Alberta<br />

opera<strong>to</strong>r’s licence. It is recommended that<br />

you obtain training <strong>and</strong> education from a<br />

licensed driving school <strong>to</strong> enhance your<br />

knowledge <strong>and</strong> skill. Driver education<br />

courses are available for the <strong>operation</strong> of<br />

passenger vehicles, commercial vehicles,<br />

<strong>and</strong> mo<strong>to</strong>rcycles.<br />

schools that provide driver education, or<br />

information about the testing process <strong>to</strong><br />

obtain an opera<strong>to</strong>r’s licence:<br />

This <strong>guide</strong> has no legal authority.<br />

Municipalities are given authority under<br />

the Traffic Safety Act <strong>to</strong> pass bylaws in<br />

areas such as speed zones, school zones,<br />

playground zones <strong>and</strong> parking. You must<br />

know local municipal by-laws.<br />

The laws that apply <strong>to</strong> driving a vehicle<br />

can be found in the Traffic Safety Act <strong>and</strong><br />

its related regulations. These documents<br />

Some registry agent offices provide<br />
