Tennant Creek Hospital is a twenty-bed hospital whose principal purpose is to<br />
assess, diagnose <strong>and</strong> treat short-term illnesses <strong>and</strong> injuries.<br />
Persons in crisis <strong>and</strong> needing urgent medical treatment due to alcohol or drug<br />
use may be admitted to hospital following assessment by emergency department<br />
AOD nursing staff.<br />
Persons presenting at the hospital for assistance with mental health will undergo<br />
a brief initial assessment by hospital emergency department staff. Hospital staff<br />
will then contact the Central Australia <strong>Mental</strong> <strong>Health</strong> Service (see page 40) on-call<br />
team (Tennant Creek) to complete a comprehensive assessment of the person<br />
if required.<br />
