Tarihi anlatmaya “bir zamanlar”
diye başlanır. Ama bu kez sonundan
başlayalım. Paraşüt yakın bir
gelecekte, çantalarımıza tıktığımız
kişisel eşyalarımızdan biri olacak.
Nedeni, iş yeri veya ev olarak uzun
saatlerimizi geçirdiğimiz gökdelenler...
Ve 11 Eylül faciasından alınan acı
ders. 11 Eylül 2001 günü canlı
yayınlarda görmüştük. Alevlerin tehdit
ettiği insanlar, hiç kurtuluş çaresi
olmadığını görünce kendilerini aşağı
bırakmışlardı. Kimbilir dünya üzerinde
kaç kişinin aklından o anda aynı şey
geçmiştir: “Keşke paraşütleri olsaydı”.
İşte şimdi bu, gerçek olmaya çok
yakın. Kısa mesafelerde hemen açılıp
havayla dolmadığı için kullanılamayan
paraşüt, sırf bu amaçla geliştirildi.
Panama merkezli bir şirket,
gökdelenlerde yaşayanlar için kişisel
paraşütler tasarladı. Son bilgilere göre
de üretime geçti.
Aslında kişisel paraşüt çok daha
önce denenmişti. 1783 yılında
Fransız Louis-Sebastien Lenormand
imzasını taşıyan paraşüt, tam da
bu amaçla yapılmıştı. Mucit iki
Normally when we recall history, we start with
“once upon a time.” However, for this story, we
will start from the end. The parachute will become
a personal item that we’ll tuck into our bags very
soon. The reason why are the skyscrapers where
many people live and work - where they spend
most of their time. And the painful lesson learned on 9/11. We On September 11,
2001, watched on live television as people threatened by fire had to jump from those
buildings when they realized that there was no other way to escape. Who knows how
many people thought the same thing at the time: “I wish they had had parachutes.”
This is indeed very close to becoming reality.
Traditional parachutes, however, cannot be used since they don’t open instantly and
fill with air at the relatively low altitude of a skyscraper, a new type was improved. A
Canadian company has designed a new type of parachute especially for people living
in skyscrapers. According to the most recent articles, the company has started to
produce its new parachutes.
Actually personal parachutes were tried much earlier. A parachute bearing the
signature of a Frenchman, Louis-Sebastien Lenormand, was designed for this very
reason. The inventor jumped down from 4 and half meters with an umbrella-shaped
parachute hooked with suspenders to his shoulders and landed safely. But this
invention would not go beyond an ambition, and remain as a wish. As a matter
of fact, the centuries following would define an era in which umbrellas would not
function for high edifices.
Jumping down from the Great Wall of Chinese!
4000 years earlier, not only would it not have been possible,
jumping from such heights couldn’t even have been imagined.
Heights and purposes were totally different. The first parachute
jumping trials were made to amuse Chinese emperors in 2200 BC.
Parachutes resembling umbrellas were used by jumpers from the
Great Wall of China to slow their falls. It’s obvious that the Chinese
people were pleased with this new form of entertainment and
improvements followed little by little.
It is generally acknowledged that parachutes originated in China
