American, early 20th century, wood and found objects. Prison art piece<br />
with monkeys gambling in a bar setting. Well done with marquetry inlaid<br />
tables, the monkeys are carved from peach pits. In a glass case, 8”h.<br />
14 1/2” x 14 1/2”.<br />
A small number of similar pieces with monkeys or frogs were made in the<br />
New Hampshire State Prison for Men. A similar example was profiled on<br />
Antiques Roadshow in Salt Lake City.<br />
