CARVED DIORAMA.
American, early 20th century, wood and found objects. Prison art piece
with monkeys gambling in a bar setting. Well done with marquetry inlaid
tables, the monkeys are carved from peach pits. In a glass case, 8”h.
14 1/2” x 14 1/2”.
A small number of similar pieces with monkeys or frogs were made in the
New Hampshire State Prison for Men. A similar example was profiled on
Antiques Roadshow in Salt Lake City.
