Mary Jackson Moody, 1801, silk on linen. Double chimney house,<br />

neatly placed between two trees and a pair of sheep. Mary signed<br />

her work with her full name and gave her age as 10 years old.<br />

The only girl named Mary Jackson Moody found during genealogical<br />

research was the daughter of Samuel Moody. He was born in<br />

Pennsylvania in1744, moving to Henrico County, Virginia, where<br />

Mary was born. Dropping the Jackson, Mary Moody was a common<br />

name in the late 18th-early 19th century.<br />
