America, mid 19th century, Possibly Chester or<br />

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, pine. Black<br />

and red paint and polychrome stencil decoration.<br />

Square shaped box with fitted interior,<br />

hinged lid, and brass handle. Top of lid is stenciled<br />

with fruit and leaves and the front of the<br />

box has a stenciled design of fruit and a bird.<br />

The front center of the lid has a name “D.S.<br />

Cloinger.” The locking mechanism is intact, but<br />

not functional. Imperfections. 7”h. 15”w. 10”d.<br />
