Bubbe and Zayde
Would Be Proud
Last fall, I wrote about
the lessons of our
grandparents’ generation
and the enormous shoes
young adults have to
fill. Today I am happy
to report that Bubbe and Zayde would
indeed be proud of the giant steps in
outreach, engagement and fundraising
made by YAD this year.
Hundreds of new faces joined in handson
service, mingled at happy hours,
taught children tzedakah, learned
leadership skills and danced the night
away to the sights and sounds of the
1980’s. And, while the brilliant smiles
you see on the surrounding pages are
evidence of the fun we had, YAD’s
campaign also increased, achieving its
highest total in many years.
The shoes are still big and there is still
much filling to do. However, at least
tonight, our community might sleep a
little easier knowing that young adults
in South Palm Beach County are truly
stepping up to give it their best try.
PREPARING TO LEAD
YAD’s Leadership Education and Development Series continued to ready
both first and second year classes to step up to community leadership.
Sessions were led by Federation lay leaders, agency professionals and
experts in the field of leadership development.
In addition to building personal and professional networks and leadership
skills, the LEADS participants were given an in-depth look at how
Federation addresses the essential needs of the Jewish community—
locally, in Israel and around the world.
Young Adults Honor Earth Day
with Beach Cleanup
Energized YAD participants spent Sunday morning, April 21 at South Inlet
Park in Boca Raton. But there were no paddle boards, blankets, lounge
chairs or leisure involved. Instead, these young Jewish adults concerned
with the environment honored Earth Day by collecting eight big barrels
of trash from the picnic area, dunes and beach. A park ranger provided
supplies and direction, and away they went.
Singles and couples, familiar faces and newcomers enjoyed their morning
- and look forward to other opportunities to roll up their sleeves, do good
and get to know each other better. The Earth Day Beach Cleanup was
chaired by Emily Einhorn.
