JWF – Making a Difference for
Jewish Women and Girls
around the Corner and in Israel
In 2012, the Jewish Women’s Foundation of South Palm Beach
County allocated $107,250 to seven Israeli and local projects
personally selected by the JWF trustees. Here’s how three of those
programs have been changing lives for a variety of Jewish women
and girls through the vision and generosity of this Jacobson
Jewish Community Foundation initiative:
SAVVY – Adolph & Rose Levis JCC
SAVVY has offered workshops to enable
young local Jewish women and teen
girls with special needs to learn self
defense, and build skills to strengthen
their physical and emotional health.
Two sessions totaling 30 classes were
based on a structured curriculum
incorporating Jewish values. The women
and girls learned to protect themselves physically, and by working
with a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. In the process, they developed
confidence to consider new possibilities in self development with peers,
family, classmates, work and fitness.
Empowerment Program for
Teenage Girls at Risk – Ethiopian
National Project
JWF has also been changing teenage
girls’ lives through the Girls Empowerment
Program at the Ethiopian National
Project’s Youth Outreach Center in our
Sister City, Kiryat Bialik. From meeting
with inspirational female role models to
exploring the many issues facing them as adolescent and immigrant girls, the
project is creating a cadre of future young Ethiopian-Israeli women leaders
motivated to succeed and fully integrate into Israeli society.
Young Women for Future Leadership
Training – WePower
This leadership development program
has been preparing women activists
between the ages of 25 and 55, who
possess a sense of mission and a desire
to create and lead social change. The
program features 10 bi-weekly four-hour
sessions, moderated by a professional group leader. Together, the women
develop leadership skills, learning about Leadership, Politics and Gender
Issues; Analyzing the Local Political/Public Environment; Setting & Reaching
Personal Goals; and Learning from Role Models/Networking with local
women leaders and government officials.

Our JWF is one of 17 groups each making two-year
allocations to a cooperative effort of 8 leading Israeli
women’s organizations
Rapid Response Overview
JWF also maintains a Rapid Response Fund that provides
one-time urgent assistance with health, housing, respite
care or child care for single Jewish working mothers in
our own community.
