7.1.20 Pali<br />

Pali lies in between 24 0 45 ’ to 26 0 55’ degrees North latitude <strong>and</strong> 72 0 48’ to 74 0 20’ degrees East longitude.<br />

Pali district is covered by Jodhpur, Jalore, Sirohi, Udaipur, Rajasam<strong>and</strong>, Ajmer <strong>and</strong> Nagour districts. The<br />

geographical area <strong>of</strong> the district is 12387 sq. Km. The district receives annual rainfall <strong>of</strong> 300 mm. The<br />

maximum temperature touches 47 0 during summer whereas the minimum temperature 5 0 C in winters.<br />

In all 2170 wetl<strong>and</strong>s are mapped including 1437 small wetl<strong>and</strong>s (< 2.25 ha) with 50304 ha area. The<br />

River/Stream with 27216 ha. contributed 54.10 % to the total wetl<strong>and</strong> area. The Reservoirs/Barrages with<br />

13178 ha (26.20% area) is the second major wetl<strong>and</strong> category, followed by Tanks/Ponds with 8144 ha area<br />

i.e. 16.19%. Thus, the district is dominated by man-made wetl<strong>and</strong>s.<br />

Open water spread <strong>of</strong> the wetl<strong>and</strong>s is significantly higher in post monsoon (16823 ha) than during pre<br />

monsoon (2173 ha), indicating the rainfall dependence <strong>of</strong> the wetl<strong>and</strong>s in the state. Aquatic Vegetation in pre<br />

monsoon is 463 ha which is higher than post monsoon Aquatic Vegetation i.e. 141 ha. The qualitative<br />

turbidity <strong>of</strong> water is low in both the seasons. Details <strong>of</strong> estimates <strong>of</strong> wetl<strong>and</strong>s in Pali are given in Table 25.<br />
