Lake/Pond<br />

Average annual rainfall <strong>of</strong> about 62.67cm. Summer season is very hot <strong>and</strong> winter is very cold.<br />

There is drastic reduction in water storage capacity <strong>of</strong> lake during summer as it is the source <strong>of</strong><br />

irrigation .<br />

The catchment area is about 1127 sq.km, almost all <strong>of</strong> which extends towards northwest <strong>and</strong><br />

northeast. Its source <strong>of</strong> water is from five rivers, the principal being river Gomti <strong>and</strong> others are small<br />

<strong>and</strong> seasonal. The maximum length <strong>and</strong> breadth <strong>of</strong> the are 13.68 <strong>and</strong> 8.05 km respectively.<br />

A total <strong>of</strong> 22 species included Catla catla, Channa maruliis, C. punctatus, C. striatus, Cirrhina<br />

mrigala, C. reba, Heteropneustes fossilis, L. qonius, L. rohita, Labeo bata, L. boqut L, calbasu, L.<br />

fimbriatus, mastacembelus armatus, Mystus aor, M. cavasius, M. seenghala, Notopterus, Ompok<br />

pabda, Puntius sarana, Tor tor, Wallago attu.<br />

The lake is possibly <strong>of</strong> considerable importance for migratory waterfowl <strong>and</strong> the greater flamingo<br />

(Phoenicopterus ruber) is known to occur. Gole recorded small numbers <strong>of</strong> herons, ducks,gulls <strong>and</strong><br />

terns.<br />
