SAN FRANCISCO AND THE GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE<br />
The golden gate bridge is a suspension bridge. It is located in<br />
California and connects San Francisco with Marin County. When<br />
the Bridge was completed in 1937, it was the longest suspension<br />
bridge in the world, but since then, there are 8 other longer bridges<br />
all over the world, but it is still the second longest in the USA.<br />
Before the bridge, the only way to go north from San Francisco to<br />
Marin County was by ferry. The construction of the bridge started<br />
in 1933, and it cost 30 million dollars. It was difficult to get the<br />
funds because it was the time of the great Depression. Today<br />
people can cross the bridge by car or motorcycle any time. During<br />
daylight hours, they can cross by bicycle or on foot. They can't<br />
cross the bridge on rollerskates, skateboards or mopeds. Drivers<br />
had to pay 50 cents to cross the bridge in the past. Now drivers<br />
who go north don't have to pay anything but those who drive south<br />
into San Francisco have to pay $6. It has a 75 m. fall ... don't try<br />
a dive !!!<br />
