ERIC’S ENTOURAGE<br />
For the fifth consecutive season, <strong>Carolina</strong> <strong>Hurricanes</strong> Captain eric Staal and his wife, Tanya, showed their support for kids in our <strong>com</strong>munity by providing a <strong>12</strong>-person,<br />
all-inclusive luxury suite every home game for different non-profit children’s organizations. eric personally purchases the suite for each <strong>Carolina</strong> <strong>Hurricanes</strong> home game<br />
for deserving organizations to enjoy. The organization who gets the privilege of using the suite assumes the role of eric’s entourage for the night, and each kid receives<br />
an autographed eric’s entourage t-shirt.<br />
CAM’S CHAMPS<br />
Cam Ward and his wife, Cody, displayed their support of athletes with special needs through an all-inclusive charity suite, Cam’s Champs. athletes from the Miracle<br />
League of the Triangle, Triangle Special Hockey association and Special Olympics of North <strong>Carolina</strong> were the primary focus of Cam’s Champs, but other all-inclusive teams<br />
like the dream Sports Center-all Stars, NC Sports for Special Kids, and the NC Therapeutic Riding Center also became Cam’s Champs for a game. Several of the groups<br />
were fortunate to have the opportunity to meet Ward post-game.<br />
ST. BALDRICK’S<br />
The <strong>Carolina</strong> <strong>Hurricanes</strong> players, staff and fans once again raised funds and awareness for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation in 2010-11. On Feb. 22, <strong>2011</strong>, professional<br />
barbers were on hand to shave heads on the RBC Center’s front lawn. in exchange for losing their locks, fans received two tickets to the game that night. John Forslund<br />
<strong>com</strong>mentated as Tripp Tracy and Chuck Kaiton’s had their heads shaved during intermission, and players Tim Gleason, Troy Bodie and Justin Peters eventually joined in<br />
the fun by shaving their heads for St. Baldricks at the Hibernian event on March 5, <strong>2011</strong>.<br />
MILITARY SUITE<br />
The <strong>Carolina</strong> <strong>Hurricanes</strong> partnered with Volvo Construction equipment to host a military appreciation suite each home game. The military suite gave North <strong>Carolina</strong><br />
active duty military, veterans, and wounded soldiers the opportunity to experience a game in an all-inclusive, luxury suite. Some of the military branches and groups<br />
invited to the military suite included Wounded Warriors, Pope air Force Base, Cherry Point, Fort Bragg, Seymour Johnson, Veterans of Modern Warfare, uSO of NC, Camp<br />
Lejeune, the National Guard and the Coast Guard.<br />
HOLIDAY HELPERS<br />
ReX Hospital, NC Children’s Hospital, duke Children’s Hospital and WakeMed Hospital each wel<strong>com</strong>ed special guests on dec. 8, 2010, as groups of <strong>Hurricanes</strong> players<br />
visited with patients at each hospital. The players signed autographs, took pictures and left <strong>Hurricanes</strong> goodies with each patient.<br />
in addition to the hospital visits, four <strong>Hurricanes</strong> players treated four deserving kids from Fuquay-Varina Youth initiative/4-H Youth development and PLM Families<br />
Together to holiday shopping at Target. Brandon Sutter, Patrick dwyer, erik Cole and Justin Peters each received a $250 Target gift card, courtesy of the <strong>Carolina</strong><br />
<strong>Hurricanes</strong>, to spend on the child. in line with the holiday spirit, each player insisted that his shopping partner have plenty of holiday gifts to share with family, so they<br />
chipped in extra money to make sure this would be an unforgettable holiday.<br />
APPEARANCES<br />
despite the <strong>com</strong>mitment of a seven-month season, <strong>Hurricanes</strong> players work public appearances and charitable causes into their very busy schedules. Our <strong>com</strong>munity is<br />
fortunate to be home to professional athletes who understand the importance of giving back.<br />
• Members of the Capital City Crew helped Cam Ward paint his goalie crease to signify the start of the <strong>Hurricanes</strong> season.<br />
• Zac Dalpe acted as a judge during the Cary <strong>Carolina</strong> Ale House’s Wing Fling event.<br />
• Brandon Sutter and Justin Peters served dinner at the Raleigh Rescue Mission and signed autographs for patrons after their kitchen duties.<br />
• Troy Bodie passed out trophies, took pictures, and signed autographs at the <strong>Carolina</strong> Ale House during the end-of-season banquet for the Capital City Crew.<br />
• Chad LaRose and Erik Cole helped Director of Helping Hand Mission Sylvia Wiggins’ dream <strong>com</strong>e true by meeting her after practice.<br />
• Eric Staal, Jeff Skinner, Chad LaRose, Ian White, Sergei Samsonov and Brandon Sutter each participated in a filmed segment promoting the Pound for Pound<br />
Challenge and packed book bags for the Food Bank of Central and eastern NC’s backpack program. The Pound For Pound Challenge donated $0.14 for every pound lost to<br />
Feeding america ® .<br />
• Tim Gleason helped USO of RDU volunteers pack rack packs to send, and then visited with military personnel <strong>com</strong>ing through the RDU facilities.<br />
• More than 350 Chevy Hats from Eric Staal’s hat trick on April 8, 2010 were donated to children at Duke Children’s Hospital, UNC Children’s Hospital and Rex Hospital<br />
on august 11-<strong>12</strong>, 2010.<br />
