PERSONAL<br />

eric and his wife, Tanya, wel<strong>com</strong>ed a son named Parker on 9/22/09, and are<br />

expecting their second child in december… They spend their summers in Thunder<br />

Bay, Ontario… His brothers Marc (NY Rangers, 2005) and Jordan (Pittsburgh,<br />

2006) were also first-round draft picks… His youngest brother, Jared, was drafted<br />

in 2008 by Phoenix and is now a member of the <strong>Hurricanes</strong> organization… eric<br />

hosts underprivileged children in his suite at <strong>Hurricanes</strong> home games as part of his<br />

“eric’s entourage” initiative… He also was involved with the launch of Raleigh’s<br />

Hockey is For everyone team, the Capital City Crew, as he donated equipment for<br />

the squad… in addition to his charitable efforts in Raleigh, he is part of a group<br />

of hockey players from Thunder Bay who host a charity golf tournament there<br />

annually benefiting the Northern Cancer Research Fund… eric’s first youth team<br />

was the Wallace Repair orange team in Norwest Minor Hockey and the players<br />

he emulated growing up were Joe Sakic and Wayne Gretzky… His most prized<br />

possessions are his Stanley Cup ring and Olympic gold medal… eric’s first job was<br />

working on his family’s sod farm… His biggest hockey influences were his parents<br />

and his favorite team growing up was Toronto… His favorite food is Chinese and<br />

the British Virgin islands are his favorite places to visit… His favorite book is “Lone<br />

Survivor” by Marcus Luttrell… eric’s biggest talent outside of hockey is beach<br />

volleyball… His favorite movie is inception and favorite TV show is e:60… His<br />

iPod is full of “pretty much anything country”… The celebrity he would most like to<br />

meet is Rory Mcilroy… He wears number <strong>12</strong> because it was his dad’s number…<br />

His favorite former teammate is andrew Ladd… His most memorable goal was<br />

his series-clincher with 32 seconds remaining in regulation in Game 7 of the 2009<br />

eastern Conference Quarterfinals at New Jersey… eric’s favorite thing to do in the<br />

Triangle is to enjoy time outdoors with his son.
