SEASON HIGHLIGHTS
• NHL Board of Governors ratifies new six-year Collective Bargaining Agreement with the
NHL Players’ Association – July 22, 2005.
• Carolina wins its ninth straight game, marking the second nine-game win streak of the
season and in franchise history. Carolina becomes just the fifth team in NHL history to post
two win streaks of nine games or more in a single season – January 19, 2006.
• Hurricanes win 8-2 at Montreal for their 13th win in January and become the seventh
team in NHL history to win 13 games in a month – January 31, 2006.
• Hurricanes clinch their third Southeast Division title with a 3-2 win against Florida.
Carolina would go on to a 55-22-8 record, finishing second in the Eastern Conference and
setting franchise highs for wins and points (112) in a season – March 31, 2006.
• Cory Stillman scores 1:19 into overtime at Montreal to advance Carolina into the
Eastern Conference Semifinals – May 2, 2006.
• Cam Ward earns his first NHL shutout as Carolina wins 6-0 in Game 1 of the Eastern
Conference Semifinals. Hurricanes would go on to win series 4-1 – May 5, 2006.
• Carolina defeats Buffalo 4-2 in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals to advance its
second Stanley Cup Final – June 1, 2006.
• Justin Williams’ empty-net goal with 1:01 remaining secures the Hurricanes’ 3-1 win in
Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Final against edmonton and gives the franchise its first Stanley
Cup championship – June 19, 2006.
