Highway Patrol<br />
Division<br />
The <strong>Department</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Public</strong> <strong>Safety</strong>’s Highway Patrol Division<br />
(HPD) is comprised <strong>of</strong> four Patrol Bureaus, the Commercial<br />
Vehicle Enforcement Bureau and the Aviation Section. The Patrol<br />
Bureaus are aligned into four bureaus based on geographic<br />
regions – Northern, Southern, Metro West and Metro East. The<br />
Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Bureau and the Aviation Section<br />
are statewide programs administered centrally with satellite<br />
<strong>of</strong>fices strategically located through out the state.<br />
In addition to its patrol function, the Metro East Bureau also<br />
administers the Canine and Motorcycle programs. The Canine<br />
district has units stationed in strategic locations to provide for<br />
statewide requests for service and patrol. The Motor district has<br />
scheduled patrol responsibilities within the geographical boundaries<br />
<strong>of</strong> both Metro East and Metro West Bureaus. The Motor<br />
district is also available for special details on a statewide basis<br />
upon request.<br />
The mission <strong>of</strong> the Highway Patrol Division is to ensure the safe<br />
and expeditious use <strong>of</strong> the highway transportation system for<br />
the public and to provide assistance to local and county law enforcement<br />
agencies. The division also provides services and<br />
enforcement in commercial motor vehicle, tow truck, school bus<br />
enforcement and safety programs and is responsible for the air<br />
rescue and aviation services for the <strong>Department</strong>.<br />
