includes Ag, Au, Fe, among o<strong>the</strong>rs. Depending on size, composition, structure and properties,<br />
nanoparticles have demonstrated a diverse range <strong>of</strong> useful applications from imaging, diagnostic,<br />
hyper<strong>the</strong>rmia, separation, drug-delivery to catalysis. The research carried out at INL combines a<br />
balanced mix <strong>of</strong> basic and applied research that involves collaborations with companies that produce<br />
nanoparticle and o<strong>the</strong>r nanostructures and advanced research in close cooperation with research groups<br />
in <strong>the</strong> area <strong>of</strong> biophysics, nanomedicine and nanoelectronics.<br />
INL is also equipped with a Central Biology and Biochemistry facility that acts as an interface for groups<br />
working on nanoelectronics, biology and chemistry research. This unit includes all <strong>the</strong> necessary<br />
instrumentation for sample preparation, luminescence, absorbance and fluorescence measurements and<br />
imaging and o<strong>the</strong>r techniquesrelated with Molecular Biology and Microbiology research.<br />
Finally, INL also <strong>of</strong>fers significant characterization capabilities at <strong>the</strong> Nanoscale level. Instrumentation<br />
includes <strong>the</strong> latest atomic resolution electron microscopy-probe and image corrected TEM/STEMs, dual<br />
FIB, UHRSEM, CD SEM, surface and interface analysis-XPS, scanning probe microscopy and X Ray).<br />
Characterization services are open to a wide variety <strong>of</strong> samples.<br />
