Organization pr<strong>of</strong>ile<br />
ANDALTEC is a research foundation created in 2003 and recognized as National Plastic Technological<br />
Centre in Andalusia (Spain). Its main objectives focus on improving <strong>the</strong> competitiveness <strong>of</strong> companies<br />
mainly <strong>of</strong> plastic sector and streng<strong>the</strong>ning <strong>the</strong> economy through research, technological development<br />
and innovation. It is made up <strong>of</strong> a pr<strong>of</strong>essional staff <strong>of</strong> over 70 employees from diverse technical<br />
specialization, most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m with wide experience gained within <strong>the</strong> automobile and plastic industry.<br />
Current areas <strong>of</strong> activity include:<br />
- Development <strong>of</strong> new products and processes (by means <strong>of</strong> designing; <strong>the</strong>rmal, mechanical and<br />
process simulations; prototyping and small scale test bath production).<br />
- New materials (i.e. nano- and bio- composites, biopolymers, light-weight and cost-effective<br />
materials).<br />
- New packaging (active and intelligent packaging).<br />
- Productivity improvement, techniques in processes and optimisation <strong>of</strong> resources.<br />
- Lighting Systems (development <strong>of</strong> new lighting systems, novel optical systems, innovative<br />
automotive lighting technologies, LED technology).<br />
- Environment (new applications for biodegradable plastics, life cycle assessment, reuse <strong>of</strong> plastic<br />
waste, and <strong>the</strong> use <strong>of</strong> residues from any o<strong>the</strong>r industry as plastic additives).<br />
Our infrastructures include different laboratories (physical-chemical, metrological, small production<br />
assays and prototyping) and a wide range <strong>of</strong> specific design and simulation s<strong>of</strong>tware to develop<br />
products and processes. ANDALTEC is extending its facilities by building a Lab <strong>of</strong> light testing and<br />
experimentation (tunnel lighting system), a Simulation Lab <strong>of</strong> vehicle-pedestrian impact, prototype<br />
manufacturing and surface appearance workshops and Pilot Plant.<br />
Main capacities in <strong>nanotechnology</strong> / nanoscience<br />
ANDALTEC has in-depth know-how in research and development <strong>of</strong> innovative materials improving its<br />
characteristics and properties, advance in new applications, determination <strong>of</strong> technical specifications<br />
and validation <strong>of</strong> new plastic materials. Related to materials, research and development <strong>of</strong> new<br />
nanocomposites is carried out with a view to improve <strong>the</strong> characteristics and properties <strong>of</strong> conventional<br />
