Organization pr<strong>of</strong>ile<br />
AIJU research centre is a private, non-pr<strong>of</strong>it making organisation founded in 1985 and located in an<br />
industrial area in Spain (Ibi, Alicante). Its aim is <strong>the</strong> research, development and technological innovation<br />
within children’s products and leisure industries, thus making it possible <strong>the</strong> achievement <strong>of</strong> a constant<br />
competitiveness increase in <strong>the</strong> sector. During 2011 <strong>the</strong> number <strong>of</strong> associated companies surpassed<br />
560, most <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>m SMEs.<br />
AIJU constantly adapts and evolves along with its industries to provide <strong>the</strong>m with timely and proper<br />
solutions. Therefore, AIJU does carry out a key role for <strong>the</strong> benefit <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> regional industry since most<br />
companies are SMEs with limited possibilities to undertake <strong>the</strong> actions to achieve competitiveness and<br />
innovation by <strong>the</strong>mselves.<br />
The organization comprises disciplines such as materials and processes, additive manufacturing and<br />
prototyping, logistics, environment, pedagogy/product, energy, social technology, innovation,<br />
management and toy safety regulations. In fact, AIJU was <strong>the</strong> first body recognized by <strong>the</strong> Spanish<br />
Government to carry out tests and laboratory reports according to <strong>the</strong> European Directive on safety <strong>of</strong><br />
toys.<br />
AIJU supports its associates through specific departments with high expertise: Technologies and Testing<br />
Department, Product Development and TIC, Innovation & Sustainability and Child consumer & Leisure<br />
achieving a remarkable level <strong>of</strong> confidence and cooperation with our associates. It also has o<strong>the</strong>r<br />
transversal support units as <strong>the</strong> training unit, which works closely with industry so as to be aware <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir<br />
needs and be able to <strong>of</strong>fer tailored courses and continuous and occupational training to pr<strong>of</strong>essionals,<br />
unemployed and students as suitable as possible according to industry requirements. Both training in<br />
attendance and distance/e-learning are <strong>of</strong>fered to introduce new technology and procedures in <strong>the</strong><br />
industry and ensure <strong>the</strong> acquisition <strong>of</strong> knowledge coming from <strong>the</strong> latest R&D activities.<br />
AIJU has experience in <strong>the</strong> development <strong>of</strong> plastic formulations containing carbon nan<strong>of</strong>ibers and in<br />
transferring its knowledge to SMEs.<br />
