It’s a familiar scene for most congregations. A group gathers at church to pray together, board a bus or vans,
and leave for a mission trip experience—with prayers, hugs, and well-wishes from others in the congregation.
The summer months are prime time for mission experiences and for Christ-followers to live out the
imperative of “the Great Commission.” They are opportunities not only to share our faith but also to have our
own faith strengthened and matured.
Capturing God’s dream and seeking to be shaped in the image of Christ, we are compelled to move
outside the walls of the church building and outside ourselves to share God’s love. Opportunities are plentiful
in our communities and around the world. Many congregations partner with CBF field personnel to offer
continuing support for their ministries. They develop relationships and go regularly to share God’s love.
While mission experiences are often seasonal, being “missional” means that we join in God’s dream for
reconciliation and redemption, not just when we are part of a mission experience but whenever and wherever
we have opportunity.
Pray for God to use groups who are “on mission” during this month. Encourage your Sunday school class
or other small group to participate in a hands-on mission experience in your community.
