Fifty thousand Afghans live in the San Francisco Bay Area, making it the largest concentration of Afghans living
outside of Central Asia. Many are refugees who, having fled their country because of war and persecution, come
to the United States impoverished, hoping to build a better life for their families. CBF field personnel Lita and Rick
Sample mobilize local churches to provide food, meet material needs, teach English and develop friendships with
Afghans. The Samples host Afghan Friendship Gatherings during which Afghans can meet and fellowship with
Christians. Pray for the Afghans, that God would provide for them the things they need and they would be open
to love and serve among their neighbors. Pray for the Samples as they build relationships and minister among the
Afghan residents in the bay area.
Samaritan Ministry estimates that 33 million people worldwide are living with HIV/AIDS. Addressing the epidemic,
CBF field personnel Nancy and Steve James provide medical care to the HIV/AIDS community in northern Haiti,
where doctors struggle to access medication. In addition, field personnel Fran and Lonnie Turner and Caroline and
Josh Smith ensure the care and education of those affected by HIV/AIDS in southern Africa. In the U.S., Ronnie
Adams serves in New York AIDS service centers offering pastoral care to the AIDS community through support
groups, Bible studies, hospital visitation, and education. Pray for those living with HIV/AIDS as well as the families
who have lost loved ones to AIDS. Pray for the continued work of ministers and field personnel working with the
