Fifty thousand Afghans live in <strong>the</strong> San Francisco Bay Area, making it <strong>the</strong> largest concentration <strong>of</strong> Afghans living<br />

outside <strong>of</strong> Central Asia. Many are refugees who, having fled <strong>the</strong>ir country because <strong>of</strong> war and persecution, come<br />

to <strong>the</strong> United States impoverished, hoping to build a better life for <strong>the</strong>ir families. CBF field personnel Lita and Rick<br />

Sample mobilize local churches to provide food, meet material needs, teach English and develop friendships with<br />

Afghans. The Samples host Afghan Friendship Ga<strong>the</strong>rings during which Afghans can meet and fellowship with<br />

Christians. Pray for <strong>the</strong> Afghans, that God would provide for <strong>the</strong>m <strong>the</strong> things <strong>the</strong>y need and <strong>the</strong>y would be open<br />

to love and serve among <strong>the</strong>ir neighbors. Pray for <strong>the</strong> Samples as <strong>the</strong>y build relationships and minister among <strong>the</strong><br />

Afghan residents in <strong>the</strong> bay area.<br />

Samaritan Ministry estimates that 33 million people worldwide are living with HIV/AIDS. Addressing <strong>the</strong> epidemic,<br />

CBF field personnel Nancy and Steve James provide medical care to <strong>the</strong> HIV/AIDS community in nor<strong>the</strong>rn Haiti,<br />

where doctors struggle to access medication. In addition, field personnel Fran and Lonnie Turner and Caroline and<br />

Josh Smith ensure <strong>the</strong> care and education <strong>of</strong> those affected by HIV/AIDS in sou<strong>the</strong>rn Africa. In <strong>the</strong> U.S., Ronnie<br />

Adams serves in New York AIDS service centers <strong>of</strong>fering pastoral care to <strong>the</strong> AIDS community through support<br />

groups, Bible studies, hospital visitation, and education. Pray for those living with HIV/AIDS as well as <strong>the</strong> families<br />

who have lost loved ones to AIDS. Pray for <strong>the</strong> continued work <strong>of</strong> ministers and field personnel working with <strong>the</strong><br />
