managers" meeting in Los Angeles recently.
United Artists is having a product seminar
in Denver Wednesday (27) with screenings
ol "Mr. Majestyk" and "Mixed Company."
Al Fitter and Walter Mirisch will be in attendance.
Exhibitors arc urged to attend this
event, according to Bob Loftis of UA .
Loftis' office recently was burglarized. The
burglar took two typewriters, a Comptometer
and a clock radio.
WOMPIs of this area held their monthly
meeting at Club 39 to discuss the upcoming
NATO of Utah convention and their
part in it. They will host a luncheon for the
convention ladies at Makcoffs, which also
will include a fashion show spon.sored by
Makeoff's. The WOMPIs have been very
busy addressing envelopes and mailing information
on the NATO of Utah convention,
to be held here April 10-11. They also
are in charge of the convention registration

Sondra Currie Promoting
'Policewoman' Openings
HOLLYWOOD—Sondra Currie, star of
Crown InternationaKs "Policewoman," is
traveling around town publicizing the film
on TV and radio and says she is determined
to do "every opening I can for it."' Declares
Miss Currie, "I'm very pro-Crown and
they"rc very pro-me now. It"s an incredible
marriage."
Sondra spoke in glowing terms of her
association with the Crown team and especially
Wes Bishop, producer and writer, and
Lee Frost, director and writer. "Everyone"s
bucking for the same end. I'm very excited
about the picture and working with Crown
again," she stated.
"Policewoman" started out simply as an
exploitation film but has evolved into a female
"James Bond-type movie"" with the
possibility of many sequels. Sondra plays
Lacy Bond, a policewoman who gets all the
boring jobs until a prison break occurs. She
almost single-handedly stops the break and
gives chase to two women prisoners who
escape.
To prepare for her role, Sondra studied
karate six hours a day a month before the
production started. She"s been acting four

Ed Doty arrived in town Friday (15) to
take over his new position as district manager
for Mann Theatres. Doty succeeds John
Telia, who recently was transferred by the
circuit to Dallas. Telia returned here for a
weekend with his family and to make arrangements
for them to be moved to the
Texas city.
Mike Morrison, Buena Vista, Denver, recently
was here on a business trip, according

Dallas Farrimond of Farrimond Distributing
Co. announced that he has set
a saturation
date on " "Gator Bait." opening May 8
in the Utah-Idaho-Montana areas . . . Joe
Baker, owner and operator of theatres in
the Montana area was in town on business
and setting dates for his new twin theatre
in Havre. Mont., which will open sometime
in
April.
Dick Frizby, manager of the Villa Theatre
here, was admitted to the IDS Hospital
for a hernia operation. He is doing well and
soon will be back at work.

Sondra Currie. At 15 she worked for
Art Gordon as bookkeeper for the Van Nuys
district of Pacific Theatres. All are wishing
her good luck on her way up in the acting
profession.
Cinema Int'l Announces
Joel Hart Promotion
AM.STERDAM — Cinema International
Corp., has announced the appointment of
Joel Hart as theatre controller for Latin
America, from CIC's headquarters here.
Former manager for Colombia, Hart will
oversee the operations of the corporation's
recently acquired cinemas in South and
Central America and the Caribbean area
from offices in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
.Succeeding Hart as CIC manager foi
Colombia is Jaime Joseph, that market's
former manager of MGM and 20th Century-Fox.
CIC-TV, the corporation's TV distribution
division, has appointed William Davis
as its director of administration, to be based
at headquarters here. He prevously was director
of TV sales for MGM-TV. with
offices in London.

Honis Forms Independent
Distribution Company
HOLLYWOOD— Herb Honis has formed
an independent distribution company and
Its first release will be "Don't Leave Go My
Hand.'" The feature premiered in San Antonio.
Tex., Wednesday (13). Writer-director
Arthur Roberson and Durey Mason,
the star of the film, attended the benefit
premiere.
Honis most recently was associated with
.Artisan Releasing Corp., where he held the
position of vice-president in charge of marketing
and sales. He began his film career
with United Artists in 1963 and held various
posts in the advertising and publicity departments,
the last being that of roadshow
coordinator for "Fiddler on the Roof.'"
Prior to joining Artisan, Honis handled the
national promotion of "The Getaway"' and
"A Warm December" for National General
Pictures.
Honis currently is involved in negotiations
for the distribution rights
films.

At Judicial Conference
YUMA. ARIZ.—Thcalrcman B.
V. Sturdivant
was requested by former U.S. Supreme
Court Justice Tom C. Clark and officers
of the American Judicature .Society to
preside at the general meeting of the National
Conference on Judicial Selection and
Tenure at Denver Thursday (21). The first
of its kind to be held, the conference was
sponsored by the American Judicature Society
and the University of Denver Law
Center. Attendees were registered from all
parts of the nation.
Sturdivant is president of the Citizens'
Ass'n on Arizona Courts, a life member of
the Institute of Judicial Administration and
a member of the Vanderbilt Associates.
In film circles he is president of NATO
of .Arizona, chairman of the Governor's
.Arizona Film Commission, chairman of the
NATO regional presidents' committee and
a member of the NATO national board and
executive committee.
Alaska Is Planning Movie
To Turn Away Job-Seekers
JUNE.A.U, AK.—When a state is considering
spending $150,000 to produce a motion
picture, it usually is with the hope of
drawing more people to the state. Alaska,
however, is out to do the opposite.
The House of Representatives has approved
and sent to the state Senate a measure
authorizing production of a documentary
to discourage job-seekers from
coming to .Alaska with hopes of getting
jobs on the trans-Alaska oil
pipeline project.
