Evel Knievel Boosts Film,
Co-Stars in Atlanta Visit
\ll \\ I A Interviewing Hvel knievel
is .i cinch. All son have to do is to turn him
on and sit back and scribble. He has opinions
and strong feelings about just about
every thing.
His lifelong hero is Joe I ouis, the Brown
Bomber, whom he classifies as one o( "the
greatest men ever," Knievel savs. although
he also admires Muhammad Ali.
the current
"
(heavyweight champion of the boxing world.
Knievel's real name is Robert Craig
Knievel and his mission in Atlanta was to
promote his new film. "Viva Knievel!",
whieh opened Friday (3) in six Atlanta
Metro loeations—Northlake, Tower Plaee.
Six. Westgate. Mableton Twin and
row n ee Country.
Evel also likes Lauren Hntton. one of his
. co-stars in the film, cast as a glamorous
• free lance photographer: "She is my type of
jnl She doesn't try to impress anyone; she's
sort of like a tomboy, the girl next door."
It was easv to get Gene Kelly to sign on
on as Evel's co-star. "Gene's kids wanted
to do it." said Knievel.
He admits that he did kidnap Linda Hoik
she slopped dating him. He must have
mvinced her. because she married him.
Ifl "We've been married 19 years now." he
proudly. He also admits that his career
"has got ivi be tough" on her.
"The wife in my life is a better man
than I am." he said simply. Although she is
"very strong emotionally." she cried "the
first time my son Robbie- he was 7 then
rode a ramp." he recalls.
Because Knievel loves kids, he periodically;
conducts "safety, camps" around the
Country teaching children safe motorcycle
habits.
With good cooperation from trie city's
school system, the program has a nominal
season price of $1.50, or 50 cents for tickets
bought singly
A big feather in the cap ol ABC FST
executives is that they have made plain to
schools and parents that adults will not he
admitted unless accompanied by children,
thus excluding the possibility ol non-accompanied
patrons who might come to prey on
small children in sexual ways.
Handling this big program directed at
one of the nation's ten largest school districts
(encompassing all of Duval County's
700,000 population) have been ABC FSTs
vice-president Tom Sawyer, exploiteer
Ralph Puckhaber and city manager R. L.
"Bob" Jones, with pertinent advice from
managers of the five involved theatres.
A second summer-long child matinee program
by ABC FST occurs each Wednesday
morning with sponsorship and copious
newspaper ads contributed by the Florida
Publishing Co. in its morning Florida
Times-Union.
This program, like the school program,
is oriented to low admission prices, clean
G-rated films, long and plentiful concession
breaks to assist children in spending their
refreshment coins and dollars, stage entertainment,
good supervision and friendliness.
