Canadian-made film, "The Little Girl Who Lives Down the Lane," moved out of the Place de Ville after one week, with United Artists' "The White Buffalo" taking over the screen. "Audrey Rose" finally moved into the Capitol Square May 20, while "Nasty Habits" took up residence at the Capitol 2, sending "Voyage of the Damned" on its way. "The Late Show" was held over in Capitol 3. The week-long "Festival of Spring," formerly called the Tulip Festival, drew fantastic weather with the result that participants packed Majo's Hill Park, overlooking the Parliament buildings. Among the events that brought out pleasure-seekers, some of whom hopefully also attended motion picture theatres, were rock concerts, arts and crafts shows and a flotilla barge down the Rideau. A marathon race was held on a Sunday, with hundreds of spectators packing the route to cheer the competitors. The gala also garnered much publicity via a rilling by the LIBO. It was decreed that the word "beer" could not be used in the festival's Beer Garden. Probably because the civil servants in Toronto didn't have anything better to do, they ordered that the offensive word "beer" be removed from all advertising, which caused a great many bleeps on the radio. Needless to say, this irritated most of the city. Lowell Green, talk-show host on CFRA Radio, asked his - listeners what would be an alternative title, for "beer garden." To the delight of Green, one woman suggested "Sidney's Forbidden Garden"—after the man responsible. Minister Sidney Handleman. In view of this flap and the recent federal customs ban on the May issue of Penthouse, it would appear governmental agencies really don't have much of importance to do. Universal's multi-Academy Award winner, "The Sting," bowed May 27 at the Odeon Elmdale. Also set to open there was "The Other Side of Midnight." Muhammad Ali's bio-pic, "The Greatest," moved into the St. Laurent as "Fun With Dick and Jane" ended a pleasant three-month-run there . . . "Young Frankenstein" held for a third week at both the Nelson and the Britannia Drive-In. Following "Jabberwocky" at the Place de K MP's 'Town' Grosses Big In Chicago Multiple Bow CHICAGO—"The Town That Dreaded Sundown," American International Pictures' latest release, grossed a pleasing $243,045 in its first week of a multiple engagement in this area. Most of the 34 theatres participating in the booking held the picture for additional screen time. Ville is Sam Peckinpah's "Cross of Iron.' :; - Some complaints were registered anenl "Jabberwocky," because the film is billed as Monty Python's "Jabberwocky"—and only one member of the group has a starring role. Monty Python animator Terry Gillian" directed the feature.
