Marketing and Promotion<br />

Raising the profile of the library service, through the website, press<br />

releases and local radio continued to be a priority in <strong>2010</strong>.<br />

• Library newsletters were published and distributed<br />

electronically and in print format<br />

• Free text alerts were introduced to alert library members in<br />

relation to events, requests and overdue items.<br />

• Book clubs were facilitated by the libraries in Birr, Clara,<br />

Edenderry, Kilcormac and Banagher.<br />

• The library website was updated on a daily basis to raise<br />

awareness of all activities in the library.<br />

Arts Service<br />

The Arts Service of <strong>Offaly</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Council</strong> aims to be a facilitator and<br />

catalyst for the development of a vibrant arts environment in the<br />

county. <strong>Offaly</strong> <strong>County</strong> Arts Plan, 2007 to 2011 recognises that the<br />

<strong>Council</strong> can<br />

“… provide leadership in quality inclusive<br />

and innovative experiences of the arts for<br />

all and to demonstrate through best practice<br />

and partnership the benefits of increased<br />

access to and involvement in the arts for all<br />

our citizens. “<br />

Main Achievements in <strong>2010</strong>:<br />

Public Art<br />

In <strong>2010</strong>, <strong>Offaly</strong> Local Authorities Public Art Working Group developed<br />

a 2 year commissioning programme called Places,<br />

Spaces and People <strong>2010</strong>-2012. A call for artists of all disciplines<br />

to be placed on a panel was advertised, from which<br />

commissions will be tendered for. Artists were commissioned<br />

for Public Art projects in Edenderry, Birr and Kilcormac, which<br />

will be delivered in 2011.<br />

Film<strong>Offaly</strong><br />

<strong>Offaly</strong> <strong>County</strong> <strong>Council</strong>’s Film Commission, Film<strong>Offaly</strong>, in partnership<br />

with Filmbase established its second Film<strong>Offaly</strong> Award.<br />

The award was won by Blinder Films for the short film the End<br />

of the Reel, which went on location during winter <strong>2010</strong>. The<br />

2009 award winning film, Noreen won Best Short Drama at the<br />

<strong>2010</strong> Galway Film Fleadh.<br />
