Marketing and Promotion
Raising the profile of the library service, through the website, press
releases and local radio continued to be a priority in 2010.
• Library newsletters were published and distributed
electronically and in print format
• Free text alerts were introduced to alert library members in
relation to events, requests and overdue items.
• Book clubs were facilitated by the libraries in Birr, Clara,
Edenderry, Kilcormac and Banagher.
• The library website was updated on a daily basis to raise
awareness of all activities in the library.
Arts Service
The Arts Service of Offaly County Council aims to be a facilitator and
catalyst for the development of a vibrant arts environment in the
county. Offaly County Arts Plan, 2007 to 2011 recognises that the
Council can
“… provide leadership in quality inclusive
and innovative experiences of the arts for
all and to demonstrate through best practice
and partnership the benefits of increased
access to and involvement in the arts for all
our citizens. “
Main Achievements in 2010:
Public Art
In 2010, Offaly Local Authorities Public Art Working Group developed
a 2 year commissioning programme called Places,
Spaces and People 2010-2012. A call for artists of all disciplines
to be placed on a panel was advertised, from which
commissions will be tendered for. Artists were commissioned
for Public Art projects in Edenderry, Birr and Kilcormac, which
will be delivered in 2011.
FilmOffaly
Offaly County Council’s Film Commission, FilmOffaly, in partnership
with Filmbase established its second FilmOffaly Award.
The award was won by Blinder Films for the short film the End
of the Reel, which went on location during winter 2010. The
2009 award winning film, Noreen won Best Short Drama at the
2010 Galway Film Fleadh.
