NOTABLE EVENTS IN <strong>2010</strong><br />
Exceptional severe weather conditions experienced in December<br />
<strong>2010</strong> resulting in continuous salting and snow<br />
ploughing of the roads listed in the Winter Service Plan.<br />
Opening of the Castletown to Nenagh M7 Motorway<br />
Scheme which bypasses 12.00 Kms of the N7 in <strong>County</strong><br />
<strong>Offaly</strong>. The old N7 has been re-classified as the R445.<br />
Progressing the planning and design of the Tullamore to<br />
Kilbeggan link road.<br />
Adoption by the elected members in November of Part VIII<br />
for the Cloneygowan By Pass.<br />
Substantial progress on the construction of Phase 2 of the<br />
Banagher Link Road with a view for completion in 2011.<br />
Completion of 4 major traffic calming and safety schemes<br />
at Tubber Clara, Sharavogue Birr, Scrubb Cross Killeigh<br />
and Doon Cross Ferbane.<br />
Structural Improvements to Cox’s Bridge Tullamore deferred<br />
to the beginning of 2011.<br />
Structural improvements to 13 bridges on the Non National<br />
Road network.<br />
Directional signage improved on the following regional<br />
roads; R356, R357, R420, R436, R438 and R439.<br />
Fifteen kilometres of national secondary roads improved<br />
including 2 major overlays on the N52 between the Tiullamore<br />
By Pass and Kilbeggan and N62 at Drumakeenan<br />
between Birr and Roscrea.<br />
Two significant road re-alignments completed on the N52<br />
in Birr town and on the R400 at Rhode Business Park.<br />
Adaption of 2 SPC policies on “Traffic Calming” and “Sale of<br />
Vehicles on a Public Road”.<br />
Procured 2 New Salt Spreaders and began construction of a<br />
600 tonne capacity Salt Barn at Ballydrohid Tullamore.<br />
