T Weber State University sponsors 16 NCAA athletic
teams. The Wildcats are charter members of the Big
Sky Conference, having been members of the Big
Sky since the league’s inception in 1963. The 2012-
13 season marks the 50th anniversary of Weber State
AThletics as a Division I institution.
Weber State sponsors seven men’s sports:
basketball, football, tennis, golf, cross country, Indoor
track and field, and outdoor track and field. There are
nine women’s sports: basketball, volleyball, soccer,
softball, tennis, golf, cross country, indoor track and
field, and outdoor track and field.
Weber State has won the Sterling Savings Bank Big
Sky Conference Presidents Cup trophy four times,
more than any other school in the Big Sky. WSU lost a
tiebreak for the title in 2012. The Presidents Cup is an
award that recognizes a combination of academic and
athletic achievement. The ‘Cats won the Cup in 2003,
2004, 2008 and 2009. Weber State has claimed the
most titles in both the men’s and women’s Big Sky All-
Sports Trophy race. The Wildcat men have captured
16 Men’s All-Sports titles, including capturing the title
in 2009 and 2010. The WSU women have won nine
Women’s All-Sports trophies.
A total of 149 Wildcats earned Big Sky All-Conference
honors in the last two seasons. In addition, 133
Wildcats earned Big Sky Academic All-Conference
honors in 2011-12. Two-thirds of Weber State studentathletes
have a G.P.A. of 3.0 or better.
During the 2011-12 season the Weber State women’s
track and field team captured the Big Sky Conference
Indoor Championships and the women’s cross
country team won the Big Sky title. The WSU men’s
basketball team finished second in the Big Sky and
was led by All-American Damian Lillard who was
drafted sixth in the 2012 NBA Draft by the Portland
Trail Blazers.
