Former Weber State linebacker Colton Swan will enter his eighth
Swan spent three years coaching the WSU safeties. One of
Swan’s pupils, Ty Sparrow, led the Wildcats in total tackles in 2007.
Sparrow was named First Team All-Big Sky. Another of Swan’s
safeties, Beau Hadley, earned First Team All-Big Sky and Third
Team All-America in 2008. Swan’s safeties were part of secondary
which helped the Wildcats lead the Big Sky Conference in Pass
Defense allowing just 212.2 passing yards per game by opponents
in 2007.
Swan is one of WSU’s successful “walk-on” stories. He came to
WSU in 1999 to try out and ended up red-shirting the season. In
2000, he played in 10 games, mostly on special teams, and had 12
tackles. He became a starter in the last fi ve games of his sophomore
season in 2001, registering 60 tackles.
As a junior in 2002, he became a full-time starter earning a scholarship.
He was named Honorable Mention All-Big Sky Conference
the 2003 team which posted an 8-4 record. He was voted Second
Team All-Big Sky Conference after he recorded 109 total tackles
(54 unassisted), had three forced fumbles and an interception.
He was also a three-time member of the Big Sky All-Academic
team. He left WSU with 135 career unassisted tackles, which ties
him for 6th on the WSU career charts.
His younger brother, Clayton “Biff” Swan, transferred to WSU
from 2011 Utah WEBER State and played STATE two FOOTBALL
seasons (2007-2008) for the Wildcats.
