mining operations as a serious
problem.
Stakeholders challenged MPM’s
conduct in previous projects (in
particular the Alchemy Project) as
well as the integrity of the
stakeholder engagement process for
the de-bottlenecking project.
Concerns were expressed that
comments and issues raised during
the public meeting will not be
addressed or sent through to
authorities.
Comments were received related to
the high unemployment levels in the
area and MPMs contribution to the
socio-economic development of the
area.
MPM does ensure that all machines
working on the mine conforms to the
DMR standards regarding noise
levels and will continually look at
minimising noise impacts from
machines. The noise levels due to
the de-bottlenecking project should
not increase but it will be confirmed
in the impact assessment phase.
The comments received during the
public meeting will be made
available in a Comment and
Response Report format and
distributed to the communities. It will
also be included in the Draft
EIA/EMP Amendment Report to be
submitted to the Department of
Mineral Resources (DMR), local
communities and other commenting
authorities.
