Table 1-3: HFI Domains, HFI Technical Areas and MAP-01-011 Chapters
HFI Technical Areas are more specific to the type of system to be procured.
Technical issues to be addressed during procurement are derived from the
appropriate HFI Technical Area(s).
Several HFI domains may be associated with each HFI Technical Area, e.g. the
design of Operational Spaces will involve more than just the techniques and
knowledge contributed by the Human Factors Engineering domain and will
include those from Health Hazard Assessment, System Safety and Personnel
domains. However, not all HFI Technical Areas may need to be addressed
during a particular procurement project. During a refit to an existing platform for
example, many design areas may be fixed.
Whilst specialist parts of Integrated Project Teams will deal separately with
platform issues and combat and marine equipment, there is a need for all parties
to approach the procurement process in a fully integrated manner to ensure
adequate exchange of requirements, constraints, design decisions and
satisfactory system integration.
MAP-01-011 provides details about the technical issues, the HFI process and
associated activities, outputs, methods and standards for each of the HFI
Technical Areas listed in Table 1-3.
The Navigation Guidance Tables for HFI Activities and Outputs in MAP-01-011
Chapter 2 provide checklists summarising the HFI activities and outputs in HFI
Technical Areas that apply to each phase of the procurement process. These
checklists provide cross-references to aid navigation between MAP-01-010 and
MAP-01-011.
