Romanis. 2nd Battalion News. · BATTALION training finished about 20th June. : F9ur Companies went on manreuvres in Perth · shire for a week. Five Companies commenced their annual musketry on the 7th July, the : other three and the Band and casuals firing after them. Colonel Egerton, Commandant ~ of the School of Musketry, inspected the ,Regiment on the 11th September. <strong>The</strong> ; Battalion Signallers were examined on the c 10th September. l <strong>The</strong> Channel Fleet, under the command of · Admiral J~ord Charles Beresford, visited the : Cromarty Firth. One division, under Adiniral : Custance, lay just off the Fort for a week. We played a cricket match with the Fleet, an , account of which is given on another page. We congratulate the representatives of the . Regiment who were present at the Scottish ,Rifle Meeting,· held in li}dinburgh, on their · shooting performances. Amongst other prizes, we won General Sir Edward Leach's Cup, cSir Charles Tucker's Cup, and the Elkington : Clia.llenge Shield. An account from the ;" Scotsman" is given on another page. ,We congratulate" C" Company on winning ,the "Rapid Firing Competition" prize of ;£9 ,at the Inverness Rifle Meeting. <strong>The</strong> team 'was-Sergt. Brown, Sergt. Horniblow, Sergt. . CampbelI, IJ.-Corpl. Shaw, Bugler M'Kechnie, •and . Piper Montgomery. <strong>The</strong> competition ,was fired at 20.0., 500., and 60.0. vards. At ;000 yards the Volunteers were ah~acl,but at , -600 yards we put on 3.2 hits out of 42 rounds, ,and won the prize 'by 8 hits. " Captain C. T. Martin joined the Battalion ..in' the first week in July, from sick leave. <strong>The</strong> Dramatic Club gave a performance of the two recent plays they acted at tlie Fort over at Nairn, in aid of a charity. Apparently they were a great success, as over £4S was taken. <strong>The</strong>re has been very little golf of late, except the Army Cup,' an account of which appears on another page. Lieut. Bryant was second for the Pullar Medal" at Nairn on the 12th July, with a score of 85 less 4; nett 81. He also got into the fourth round for the Captain's prize, but was defeated by Lieut. Wallace of the Black Watch by 1 hole. We congratulate the cricket team on winning the Cricket League. We only hope the football team will do the same this year, and win the Football League. Major Hill, Lieuts. Bryant., CaIl!pbell, and Davis were selected to play in the East v. West oricket match at Inverness. Lieut: Campbell did a fine bowling performance, getting 7 wickets for S9 runs. In the Nairn Games, which were heldl recently, some representatives of the Regi-: ment did well. In the marches, reels, and strathspeys, Piper Johnston, 2nd H.L.I.,' won 1st prize; Piper Haines, 2nd H.L.I." and Piper Wilsvn, 2nd H.L.I., were 2nd and Srd. In the marches only, Piper Young,: 2nd H.L.I., was 2nd, and Corpl.-Piper Richardson and Piper Wilson were equal-, Srd. Piper Young, 2nd H.L.I., was 1st in' the competition for reels and strathspeys, only. In the sword dance, open to boys and' girls under 16, Boy Piper Finlay was 2nd, and Miss M'Kie, Fort-George, was Srd. Bugler Lambert was Srd in the quarter-mile ra,ce. In the <strong>Highland</strong> fling (confined to: boys and girls), Boy Piper FinIR,y won the 1st prize, and Miss M'Kie, ,Fol't.George, Srd.
