18 HIGHLAND LIGHT INFANTRY CHRONICLE.
.----------------------~-------
quency of corners and free kicks being very
noticeable. Most of the free kicks against
the H.L.I. were for off-side, owing to one of
the Elgin backs lying up very far. About this
time Elgin missed several good chances of
scoring, but eventually they succeeded in
bringing the score to 3-2.
After this success the Elgin team redoubled
their efforts to equalise, and the H.L.I. team
had to play all they knew to keep them out,
especially as they now had to play against
driving snow.
Roberts then got away, and ran the whole
length of the field, but finished weakly.
Eventually Blaikie, who had been putting ill
some useful work, made a fine run, and scored
with a well-directed shot, thus making a
certainty of the result-the scores standing
at 4-2.
From this onwards the game was of a
give-and. take nature.
Time being called shortly after, the H.L.I.
were left winners by 4-2 after a hard game.
HOCKEY.
An excellent game of hockey took place on
27th November on the ground in front of the
Officers' Mess at the Fort, against the Depot
Seaforth' Highlanders. After a very wellcontested
game, the H.L.I. defeated the
Depot by 5 goals to 3.
