Anyone wishing to subscribe for the space of one· year can do so by sending one shilling and eightpence by postal order or penny stamps to the Editor. The numbers will thcn be sent post free quarterly a', issued. The arrival of the paper wiII be the receipt. Anllual volumes, consisting of the four quarterly numbers, bound together in a paper cover, can be obtained, post free, for one shilling and sevenpence. Contributions in manuscript should be legibly written on one side of the paper only, and should be accompanied by the nallle and address of the sender, which will or will not be published, as may be desired .. It is particularly requested that names generallythose of persons, places, etc. -and all words not English, should be written with special care, as otherwise they are difficult to decipher. 'Yhen printed extracts are forwarded, the source from which they are derived should be stated; and in the case of newspaper cutting;' the date, as well as the name of the paper, should oe given. The" Chronicle" is published on the. 10th of the first month of each quarter, and goes to press about the 20th of the previous month, by which date it is requested that ordinary contributions may be forwarded. In exceptional cases matter will be received up to the last day of the month, but its insertion cannot be guaranteed. All subscribers and readers are invited to become contributors, and thus materially assist in supporting the "Chronicle." THE following cutting from the "Oban Times" will be of interest to many of our readers who have served in the 2nd Battalion, as MacLeod of MacLeod served for many year~ in the 74th : At Dunvegan Castle on Friday last -week MacLeod of MacLeod and Mrs. MacLeod of MacLeod celebrated their silver wedding. The weather was of the most inclement description, but, notwithstanding, the tenants on the estate assembled in large numbers to congratulate the Chief and his lady, and to wish them many happy returns of the day. The tenantry presented MacLeod and Mrs. MacLeod of MacLeod with a beautifullyilluminated address, signed by all the tenants on the estate, and with a pair of massive and ornate silver candelabra. THE PRESENTATION. The presentation took place in the library of the Castle, and, in handing over the gifts, Mr. Martin, of Glendale, convener of the Presentation Committee, in the course of an eloquent speech, alluded to the good relations whieh had always existed between the Chief of the MacLeods and his tenants. He believed 110 landlord in the Highlands was better loved by his tenants than MacLeod, and they had resolved to give him this tangible and enduring proof of their love, esteem, and respect. Those who knew Mrs. MacLeod of MacLeod were well aware how good a helpmate she was to her husband, and how she had identified herself with all his efforts to improve the social conditions of his people ; they knew how kind and unremitting was her attention to the poor and the sick in the district, and how she tried to alleviate suffering and distress by every means in her' power. Mr. Martin specially alluded to Mrs. MacLeod of MacLeod's efforts in the cause of temperance, and to the good work she had done in this way at Dunvegan. He concluded by expressing the fervent hope that MacLeod and Mrs. MacLeod of MacLeod had 'many happy years of wedded life still before them, and he asked Mr. Cameron, Gesto. to read the Address from the tenantry WE quote the following from the "St. George's Gazette," the Regimental paper of the 5th Northumberland Fusiliers, which. we feel sure, will be of interest to those readers of the "Chronicle" who served in the Regiment along with Mr. Cooper: Our new Bandmaster, Mr. W. F. Cooper, joined the 2nd Battalion in March last, succeeding Mr. L. WaIlace. Mr. Cooper comes from the" land 0' cakes," being a native of Edinburgh. He commeIl;ced his military career in 1881, when he enlisted in the 7lst Highland Light Infantry, with which regiment he served with credit for over 9 years. From the 7lst he proceeded to Kneller Hall to com~ plete his musical education, when his keenness and attention to his studies eventually brought him the appointment of Bandmaster to the 2nd Battalion of the King's Own Scottish Borderers, then stationed in India, where he maintained his reputation for another nine years, training one of the best string bands in the Service. Owing to the ill-health of his wife he proceeded home in 1902, and joined the Royal Garrison Regiment. Mr. Cooper next went to Canada, where the band, under his able baton, became very popular. He was called to Boston in 1903, on the occasion of the visit to America of the "Honourable Artillery Company," when his band received a great ovation. On the disbandment of that regiment, and after spending a brief holiday in Ireland, he was ordered to join the 2nd Battalion of the 5th, and during the short time he has been with us has succeeded in making himself very popular with all ranka.
