Jrd Battalion News.<br />

TRAINING, 1906.<br />

THE training of last year took place at Gailesan<br />

ideal spot for a Camp.<br />

On the 22nd of June the advance. party<br />

proceeded to prepare the Camp. <strong>The</strong> advance<br />

party consisted of Lieut. and Qr.-Mr. W. Mill,<br />

23 N.C.O.'s and men.<br />

i . <strong>The</strong> Recruits proceeded to Gailes for musketry<br />

on the 24th June. <strong>The</strong> party, under<br />

command of Capt. J. Stewart (the Black<br />

Watch), Adjutant of the Battalion, consisted<br />

of 5 Officers, 1 Warrant Officer, and 99 N.C.O.'s<br />

and men.<br />

<strong>The</strong> Battalion assembled at Hamilton on<br />

the 9th of July, and proceeded to Gailes by<br />

train. <strong>The</strong> Battalion was under command of<br />

Major T. S. O. Sell, in the absence of Lieut.­<br />

Col. E. A. Everett, and assembled in the<br />

following strength :-12 Officers, 1 W.O., and<br />

41fJN.C.0.'s and men. About 150 others<br />

turned up later, and proceeded by a later train<br />

on the same date. <strong>The</strong>re were very few<br />

absentees, and on the whole the muster was<br />

very satisfactory. <strong>The</strong> following Officers were<br />

on Parade :-Capt. and Adjt. J. Stewart;<br />

Capts. Outram, Haird, Martin, Jackson, Reid,<br />

Hall; Lieuts. Clarke, Crosbie, Morgan; Lieut.<br />

and Qr.-Mr. Mill.<br />

<strong>The</strong> training was very successful, the<br />

weather on the whole was good, and the<br />

Battalion was dismissed at Hamilton on the<br />

5th of August.<br />

TIlE ANNUAL WAPPENSCHAW.<br />

THE above took place on the 5th of August on<br />

the Ayrshire Rifle Association Ranges at<br />

Boatstobs. <strong>The</strong>re were in all 420 entries,<br />

and the events were very stubbornly contested.<br />

EVENTS.<br />

1ST COMPETITION.-Battalion Cups competed<br />

for by teams of 8 Officers, N.C.O.'s, or<br />

men, from each Company.<br />

1st Prize and Cup-" E " Coy., 608 points.<br />

2nd Prize-" B" Coy., 600 points.<br />

3rd Prize-" G" Coy., 592 points.<br />

2ND COMPETITION.-Sergeants and Lance­<br />

Sergeants (Militia only). Seven rounds at<br />

200, 300, and 500 yards.<br />

1st Prize (£1 lOs.)-Sergt. Black, " F " Coy.­<br />

2nd Prize (£l)-Sergt. Watson, " G ,\ Coy.<br />

3rd Prize (lOs.)-Sergt. Barron, " F " Coy.<br />

3RD COMPETITION.-Rank and File, including<br />

Corporals and Lance-Corporals. Limited<br />

to the four best shots, being marksmen from<br />

each Company. Seven rounds at 200, 300,<br />

and 500 yards.<br />

1st Prize (30s.)-Pte. M'Kay, "E" Coy.<br />

2nd Prize (20s.)-Pte. Williams, " E " Coy.<br />

3td Prize (15s.)-Corpl. Falconer, " E " Coy.<br />

4th Prize (lOs.)-Pte. Camp bell, " B " Coy.<br />

5th Prize (5s.)-Pte. Owens, " G" Coy.<br />

. 4TH COMPETITION.-Open to Battalion rank<br />

and file. Conditions :-<strong>The</strong> target to be a<br />

disc 18 inches in diameter, with invisible<br />

bull's-eye, 6 inches in diameter, counting<br />

four points; the inner, 12 inches in diameter,<br />

counting 3 points; remainder of target,<br />

2 points. <strong>The</strong> target to appear eight times,<br />

each time for 3 seconds, with intervals of 3<br />

seconds between each appearance.<br />

1st Prize (15s.)-Corpl. Kemp, "D" Coy.<br />

2nd Prize (lOs.)-Pte. Blaney, " B " Coy.<br />

3rd Prize (5s.)-Pte.Stewart, "E " Coy.<br />

4th Prize, (5s.)-Pte. Leyader, " B " Coy.<br />

5th Prize (2s. 6d.)-Pte. Russell, " H" Coy.<br />

6th Prize (2s. 6d.)-Pte. Rae, " G" Coy.<br />

7th Prize (2s. 6d.)-Pte. Nicholson," G "<br />

Coy.<br />

8th Prize (2s. 6d.)-Pte. Moor, " E " Coy.<br />

<strong>The</strong>re were two competitions for Officers,<br />

but, owing to the large number of entries from<br />

the rank and file of the Battalion, time did<br />

not admit of their being carried to a finish.<br />

ANNUAL COURSE OF MUSKETRY.<br />

THE following were the winners of Badges in<br />

Tables A and B (Militia) :­<br />
