a detailed system for creating signature marks to be used by schools and units;
templates for business cards, letterhead, envelopes, and related office stationery;
templates for the website banner system; and
detailed usage guidelines defining fonts, colors, and position of marks in the visual
identity system.
Policy Review and Development
University Relations conducted a review of existing university policies that could compromise
the success of a long-term universitywide branding effort. There were many deficiencies that
required major revisions of existing policies and the establishment of new policies. Since the
start of the Comprehensive Communications Program, University Relations has managed the
development of the following universitywide policies:
University Visual Identity
Purchase of External Advertising
Permission for Outside Vendors to Film, Videotape, and
Photograph on Campus
Trademark Licensing (use of the Rutgers name and marks)
Communication and Relations with the News Media
Sponsorships, Endorsements, and Accepting Advertising in
University Materials (currently in development)
University Relations has taken on the responsibilities of coordination
and approvals for each of the newly established policies. View the policies online at
