knew each other.Karin is an alumna of St. Mary’s College in<br />

Moraga, CA. Upon graduation in 1990, she became one of the first<br />

women to join the <strong>La</strong>sallian Volunteer Movement, to share fully in<br />

community life with De <strong>La</strong> <strong>Salle</strong> Christian Brothers, and to work<br />

with the Brothers in the Bronx, NY. Karin continued her formation<br />

experience, living, working, and studying in <strong>La</strong>sallian ministries in<br />

the Bronx for seven years. In 1997, Karin became the Director of<br />

the <strong>La</strong>sallian Volunteer Program for the US-Toronto Region, a<br />

position which she held three years. During this time, Karin completed<br />

the Buttimer Institute of <strong>La</strong>sallian Studies, an intensive formation<br />

program covering the life of De <strong>La</strong> <strong>Salle</strong>, <strong>La</strong>sallian educational<br />

philosophy, and <strong>La</strong>sallian spirituality.<br />

Mike is an alumnus of <strong>La</strong> <strong>Salle</strong> College High School in<br />

Philadelphia, PA. After graduating from college and teaching for a<br />

couple of years in public school, Mike received the habit of the<br />

Christian Brothers in the Fall of 1992 in the Baltimore District. For<br />

the next four years, Mike lived in community with the Brothers,<br />

studied theology, taught high school, and worked as a campus minister<br />

before entering the novitiate in the Fall of 1996. In 1997, after<br />

completing the novitiate and taking temporary vows, Mike joined<br />

Brothers William Johnson and Patrick Cassidy in founding the<br />

third San Miguel Middle School in Camden, NJ. In the winter of<br />

1998-99, Mike chose not to renew his annual vows, but remained<br />

teaching at San Miguel and living in a house in the neighborhood<br />

of the school.<br />

Our Commitment to God.<br />

Throughout our 20s and early 30s, many people - Brothers and lay<br />

- nurtured our Christian and <strong>La</strong>sallian vocations. It was during this<br />

time that the <strong>La</strong>sallian charism, a gift of the Spirit given to us by<br />

God, was activated within us through our encounters with others,<br />

especially the poor. We felt called by God as <strong>La</strong>sallian ministers. We
