The last reports of striper were the week before. Most were surface catches on the East Dam and near restroom 3. Mega bait and Castaic trout pattern swim baits have had the best success. The biggest striper last week weighed 26.6 pounds. Lake Records: Art Berry of Hemet, 29.77-pound striper caught at East Dam using swimbait; Keith Thomas, 3-pound crappie using shiners; and John Arganda of Menifee, 3.06-pound blue gill caught on a night crawler fishing near the Saddle Dam. MLS#600 $156,900 TAO For those seeking ʻEnlightenmentʼ Anza tennis courts still need funds Tulvio Durand, recently appointed secretary for the Anza Valley Municipal Advisory Committee (AVMAC) reported that Verne Lauritzen, chief of staff for 3rd District Supervisor Jeff Stone confirmed a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for $100,000 dollars in order to construct tennis courts at Anza Valley’s Hamilton High School at 57430 Mitchell Road. The problem, according to Durand, is that the application request was for $200,000 dollars, and receiving only part of the request topples a chain of dominoes reaching to Hemet Unified School District (HUSD). The conditions of the application, which Durand, who taught for a year at Hamilton before retiring, prepared, called for HUSD to provide funding in the amount of $250,000 dollars “contingent upon obtaining the CDBG in the full amount requested of $200,000.” The likelihood of construction anytime soon is additionally complicated by the fact that Measure C, a School Improvement Bond for HUSD on the June 6 primary election ballot failed to pass. It had no significant opposition within the voting community. The measure would have provided $149 million dollars in bonds to relieve student overcrowding by building new schools, making repairs and improvements to existing schools throughout the District, and making the District eligible for State matching funds. As required by Proposition 39, passed by California voters on November 7, 2000, measures authorizing general obligation bonds must be passed by 55 percent of voters in order to succeed. Measure C failed by a 52.88 percent to 47.12 percent margin, missing passage by a little over 2 percentage points, even though carefully worded to include bond issuance at the lowest possible rates, annual review by a citizens oversight committee, that no bond funds be used for administrative salaries, and that all funds would be spent locally and could not be transferred to the state.
