Former occupation: I was a teacher for 35 years. The last
17 years were with the Hemet Unified School District
teaching gifted classes and honors classes.
What community groups are you involved in and how
do you serve them I am president of the Mountain
Community Patrol, the secretary of the Friends of the
Library, and a volunteer at the Nature Center.
What accomplishments in your life are you most proud
of Being a teacher, of course, and when I was 18, I ran
a program for Native American girls to teach them basic
sewing and cooking skills.
Born: Camden, N.J. in 1946.
Where you grew up: Yuma, Ariz.
Your first job, where & when: My first job was when I was
15. I was hired as a French tutor for a fellow student
who was failing French. My first real job was working
in a drug store to earn money for college.
Pets: I have a little black dog named Zorro who everyone
seems to know. They say, “Hey look! It’s what’s-her-name
and Zorro.”
How long have you lived in Idyllwild 20 years.
Are you full-time or part-time Full.
Where did you move here from & why Garden Grove. I
just wanted to get out of the city. I grew up in a rural
area outside of Yuma and I missed it.
Hobbies and special interests: Outside of the computer, I
don’t have any real hobbies; but my interests are many
and varied. I love archaeology, history and science.
Your favorite food: Orange Chicken from Panda Express.
Your favorite book: “To Kill a Mockingbird” and “All
Creatures Great and Small.”
Your favorite movie: “To Kill a Mockingbird.”
Your favorite TV show: “The Amazing Race.”
Your favorite getaway: England.
A really great evening is: Staying home with a book.
Your dream car: I don’t really care about cars, but I would
love to have a small motor home so I could drive across

My principal

that I would really like it there.
The worst advice you received: None, really. I have always
trusted my own instincts and they usually steer me in
the right direction.
In 10 years, you hope to be: Still here, alive and on the
Hill; and doing what I am doing now.
What you like best about the Hill: The forest and the
people.
What you dislike most about the Hill: Bark beetles and
fire abatement.

Your pet peeve: People who finish your sentences for
you.
You knew you were grown up when: When I was a teen,
our neighbor had a trained attack dog that was very
vicious. One day, he got out of the yard and went after
some children who were walking home from school. He
cornered a little boy. All the adults in the neighborhood
were gone and I was the only one who could step in
and help the little boy. I grabbed the steak my mom was
marinating for dinner and lured the dog away from the
boy and into my backyard. The boy was OK, but the dog
had to be put down. That made me sad, because he was
only doing what it was trained to do.
Your most irrational act: When I lived in Garden Grove,
I went out to buy a carton of milk and bought a new
car instead.
A goal for this year: I would like to save up enough money
to go back to England.
Anything else you want people to know about you: Since
I have retired, I have made many new friends on the Hill,
and I am very grateful to them for extending the hand
of friendship and making me a part of their lives.
